Barb Fehr, age 63, of Swift Current, passed away at the Cypress Regional Hospital on May 24, 2007, after a ten month battle with cancer. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Peggy (Dale Moldowan), Ruby and Doug (Crystal); her grandchildren, Andy McFadyen and Elisha Fehr; her step-grandchildren, Jennifer (James) Tataryn, Travis Moldowan, Tyler Adamson and Derek Adamson; her sisters, Lydia Fehr and Martha Wieler; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Cornie; her parents, Isaac & Ann Olfert; her sisters-in law, Lena Hildebrandt and Anna Buekert; and her brother-in-law, Cornie Neustaeter. Barb Olfert was born in Swift Current on February 1, 1944. She grew up on a farm east of Wymark with her parents and two younger sisters. She attended the Versailles School by Chortitz after which she went to work as a live-in housekeeper and nanny for a young family in Hodgeville. Barb married Cornie Fehr on August 20, 1967. They made their first home on his parents' homestead. They then moved to Chortitz and in 1972 they moved to their own farm where they resided until Cornie's passing. Barb moved to Swift Current in 2005. Barb lived to serve. She was very active in running the family farm. She was also an active volunteer in the community and in her church. She was a member of the Camp Elim Board, the Director of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, the Ladies Mission Club and spent many hours volunteering at the Mennonite Heritage Village. She loved to be surrounded by people and spent much of her time visiting with family and friends, laughing and reminiscing about old times and playing games. She had many hobbies and interests including various crafts, sewing and traveling throughout Western Canada, Europe and Bolivia. Her greatest interest was always her grandchildren who were the recipients of many of her crafts and sewing projects. Whenever it was possible, she would also take them with her when she traveled . She was a kind and big-hearted woman who had time for everyone and we will miss her very much! The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 2:00 pm from the Zion Mennonite Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastors Ray & Sylvia Friesen and Pastor Mike Fedunec officiating. The pianist for the service was Gaylia Wiens. Scripture readings were read by Pastor Sylvia Friesen. “Amazing Grace”, “Holy, Holy, Holy“, “Lead On O Cloud of Presence” and “There’s A Wideness In God’s Mercy” were sung by the congregation. The life history of Barb was shared by Pastor Sylvia Friesen with the poem, “Footprints” read by Pastor Mike Fedunec. The ushers in the church were Stan Ginter and John Fehr. the Interment was held at the Schoenfeld Cemetery, Schoenfeld, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Mike Wall, Dylan Wall, Ian MacPherson, Ed Fehr, Terry Fehr and Bryan Buekert. In memory of Barb Fehr, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
