Elizabeth Klassen of Herbert, Sask. went to be with her Lord and Savior August 18, 2007 at the Regina General Hospital. Elizabeth was born to Peter and Helen Voth in the Greenfarm District south of Herbert on October 12, 1931. She attended Greenfarm School for 8 years. She accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord as a young girl and was baptized in July of 1947. Before attending Herbert Bible School in 1949 and 1950 she worked for several families helping with housekeeping. Through school and church she met the neighbour boy John Klassen. After courting for 2 years, they were married on August 22, 1954 at the Greenfarm M.B. Church. They had 3 children – Josie in 1956, Carl in 1958, and Charlene in 1962. She did housekeeping for several years at the Herbert Hospital, but her main focus was always her home and caring for her family. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed going to events they were involved in. She was excited to be able to meet her only great-grandchild this past Christmas. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and quilting blankets and afghans for all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. She prayed for each of them daily. Elizabeth loved music. She enjoyed singing in the Greenfarm choir and later at the Manor on Friday afternoons. She loved to sit at her keyboard and sing and play old familiar hymns. Other interests included growing vegetables and beautiful flowers in the garden, cooking, canning, shopping, traveling, reading her Bible and many other books from the church library, and relaxing while watching curling and bowling on TV. She enjoyed serving the church and community through helping with the church food committee, church youth group, and Auxiliary to the Homes. She built very special relationships with her gals in the Pioneer Girls pal/gal program. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Helen Voth; her brother, Ed Voth; her brothers-in-law, Abe Unger and Bernie Falconer; her sister-in-law, Edna Voth; and by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law on the Klassen/Guenther side. She will be sadly missed by her husband, John, of 53 years; her children, Josie (Danny) Caputo ~ Jason (Becky) Caputo and their son Samuel, Adam Caputo and Joanne Caputo: Carl (Marjorie) Klassen ~ Rachel (Ryan) Wiebe, Eric Klassen, Jennifer Klassen, and Hillary Klassen: Charlene (Murray) Martens ~ Bryce Martens, Dale Martens, and Chelsea Martens; her brothers, John Voth, Albert (Adena) Voth, Jake (Sophie) Voth; her sisters, Sarah Unger, Margaret (John) Dyck, Rosella Falconer; a sister-in-law, Agnes Stockell; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 2:00 pm from the Mennonite Brethren Church, Herbert, SK with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. The organist for the service was MaryAnn Voth accompanied by Elsie Peterson on the piano. “God Leads His Dear Children Along” and “My Jesus, I Love Thee” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Henry Braun. The obituary was read by Eric Klassen (grandson) with personal memories shared by Josie Caputo on behalf of the children and Rachel Wiebe presenting tributes to ‘grandma’ on behalf of the grandchildren. A power point tribute was presented by the family. Special music was brought by Pete & Leona Braun singing, “While Ages Roll” and “When I Thank Him for What He has Done”. The ushers in the church were Murray Goertzen and Randy Voth. The Interment preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with the Grandchildren serving as pallbearers. In memory of Elizabeth Klassen, donations made to the West Bank Bible Camp or to the Bethany Bible College would be appreciated by the family.
