Peter Sawatsky, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2007 at the Swift Current Care Centre. Peter is survived by his wife, Tena, of 67 years; his son, Lance (Lorraine) Sawatsky of Swift Current: grandchildren, Tim (Melissa) Sawatsky (Calgary), Kelly Sawatsky (Vancouver), Doug (Jaime) Penner (Swift Current), Theresa (Kevin) Funk (Swift Current); his daughter, Bonny (Bob) Neufeld of Swift Current: grandchildren, Skip (Leslie) Neufeld (Swift Current), Jameson (Jen) Neufeld (Lethbridge), Jodi (Todd) Salmon (Dallas, Texas); his son, Ryan (Dianne) Sawatsky of Vancouver: grandchildren, Tyler (Leslie) Bruhaug (Vancouver), Cory Bruhaug (Vancouver; his 10 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Cornie (Eunice) Sawatsky (Regina), Jake (Sylvia) Sawatsky (Calgary); and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard & Justina Sawatsky; his brothers, Barney, John; his sisters, Tina Sarka, Christine McIntosh, Nettie Hart, Mary Boyce and a brother and sister in infancy. Peter was born on May 15, 1915 in Gretna, MB. He served in the army in Halifax and in 1940, he married Tena Loewen. Peter worked for the railroad for many years and later worked for Union Sand & Gravel until his retirement. Peter enjoyed his grandchildren, playing “bear” and chasing them around. He loved to spend time in his little shop working on various projects. He read his Bible every day and attended church regularly. Dad and Mom had many opportunities to travel south for the winter and they also made many trips to Vancouver to visit family. Dad and Mom had ‘trailering buddies’ with their fifth wheel trailers, spending time together as friends. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, September 7 at 2:00 pm from the Church of the Open Bible with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating. The Pianist was Marilyn Stevenson. The Soloist was Nancy Lemay. The ushers were Doug Sawatsky and Todd Salmon. The Interment took place at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Swift Current with his grandchildren serving as pallbearers, Tim Sawatsky, Melissa Sawatsky, Jamie Neufeld, Jen Neufeld, Kelly Sawatsky and Jody Salmon. For those wishing, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Gideons International would be appreciated by the family. Swift Current Funeral Home was in care of arrangements.
