Name: Elizabeth Rempel

Passed away: September 8, 2007
Elizabeth Rempel (nee Giesbrecht) passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre at the age of 79 years. Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Susan (Harry) Wiebe, and children, Heather (John) Adrian - Colten & Joshua and Michael Wiebe: Helen Volk, and daughter, Lauren: Elizabeth (Greg) Wills, and children, Ashley and Matthew; a brother, Abe (Sadie) Giesbrecht; sisters-in-law, Agatha and Margaret; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, David & Helena Giesbrecht; her husband, John, in 2005; her brothers, Dave and Peter; her sisters, Ann, Mary and Helen; three brothers-in-law; as well as one niece and two nephews. Elizabeth was born on April 13, 1928 in Chortitz, Saskatchewan. She married John Rempel on November 5, 1950. She was a homemaker and a helpmate to her husband on the farm. When John’s health deteriorated, she willingly took on the role of caregiver, making it possible for him to remain in their home until his passing. Her talented hands created many crocheted, knitted and sewn articles for family, friends and charitable organizations. All of her grandchildren will forever remember grandma’s animal cookies which she faithfully made for special holidays. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for her ready smile and infectious laugh. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved to play games, not caring whether she won or lost, just enjoying the challenge and social contact. Elizabeth was very dedicated to family, and after the passing of her sisters, she quietly and lovingly assumed the role of a mother figure for her nieces and nephews. Elizabeth’s endearing and humble nature drew many people to her. Everyone who met her loved her immediately and even those who only met her once always thought of her with great fondness. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 2:00 pm from the Schoenfeld Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, Schoenfeld, SK with Rev. David Wiebe and Rev. Abe Funk officiating. The Interment Service was held at the Schoenfeld Cemetery, Schoenfeld, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Terry Giesbrecht, Stan Giesbrecht, John Fehr, Henry Hiebert, Landin Olfert and Cornelius Fehr. For those wishing, donations made to the Palliser Regional Care Centre Palliative Care Room in care of the Dr. Noble Irwin Health Care Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK
