Eldon Herbel, age 81, of Swift Current and formerly of Beaver Flats District, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current. Eldon was born on June 8, 1926, in the Beaver Flats District to David & Molly Herbel. Eldon married his wife, Lucille Hinther, on April 12, 1952, at the First United Church in Swift Current. They made their home in the Beaver Flats District that same month. Dad & Mom farmed their homestead for the next ten years, before they adopted their first daughter, Orabeth. Three years later they adopted another daughter, Elda Mae. Dad & Mom enjoyed twenty-eight years farming their land together. In 1980, they moved to Swift Current and continued to farm their land until 1999. Dad’s passion in life was farming, but he also loved to fish, camp, play games - especially Ludu, play pool, and spend time with family and friends. Dad loved to spend time watching boxing on television, in his favorite chair, and also going to watch the rodeo during the fair days. Family was so very important to Dad. He loved to see the grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and was always interested in what was happening in their lives. Dad was so very happy to have been able to see two of his grandchildren get married this summer. Even though his health was failing, he was so very proud to be at their weddings. Dad leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lucille, of fifty-five years; his two special daughters, Orabeth Johnston and Ellie (Lance) Dyck, both of Swift Current; his special grandchildren, Andy Johnston and Terry Johnston both of Swift Current, Darren (Melissa) Dyck of Regina, and Melissa (Derrick) Jesney of Swift Current.
