Walter Smith, age 62, of Swift Current, passed away at The Cypress Regional Hospital on October 27, 2007. After a 3 year battle with intestinal cancer. He leaves to cherish his memory his child, Amanda (Ryan Harding), his grandchild, Skyler Harding, his sisters, Mary Smith, Ada Smith, Una Smith, Venice McGory, and brother Fred Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews. Walter is predeceased by his parents William and Emma Smith, and brothers, Ron and Sylvester Smith, and sister Evelyn Smith. Walter Smith was born in Chancecove, NFLD on October 12, 1945. He grew up in Chancecove with his parents and all 8 siblings. He attended Chancecove School from Kindergarten to Grade 5. Which after that, he spent more time at home caring after his siblings and helping his parents out dearly. Walter married Colette Johnson on March 14, 1986. They both met in Saskatoon, SK, in July of 1984, while Walter was working on the Canadian Pacific Railways on and off. Where in, on December 4, 1985, they gave birth to their one, and only daughter Amanda. They then moved to Alberta, and continued on their journey with a few short moves 8 years later. Where they ventured back to Saskatchewan. Walter had a very caring heart. He lived to help others, and make sure everyone he knew was not in any trouble. He couldn't be friends with someone unless they needed his help in some sort of way. He loved to be apart of his family, especially when his grandson came into the picture only 2 years before his passing. His favourite pastimes included travelling, collecting anything and everything, and spending time at home with his wife, watching Game Show Network and Judge shows. Walter was a great man who invested 99% of his life in family, and supporting his family. And because of this he will be sadly missed by all of them. The cremation took place on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. No formal service will be held. Close family only service on Friday, November 2, 2007.
