Francis Harold Pawlitza (“Harold”) was born in Cabri on January 30, 1924, and died in Swift Current on December 28, 2007. In April of 2005, Harold was predeceased by Katherine, his wife of almost 52 years; his brother, Elvyn, in June of 1944; and his sister, Vera, in January of 1995. Harold is survived by his son, Alvin, daughter-in-law, Mary Kate, Abbey, SK, his grandchildren, Julia, Alex and Georgia; his daughter, Laurie, son-in-law, Todd Ducharme, Toronto, ON; and by a brother, Albert and wife, Vivian, Chiliwack, BC, their children and grandchildren. Harold died on the same day as his father, Frank, who passed away December 28, 1955 and who was also buried on December 31st. Frank homesteaded the family farm outside of Abbey in 1910. Harold took over the farm in 1953, and his son, Alvin, continues to operate the family farm today. Harold spent his life on the farm outside of Abbey until the late 1990’s, when he and Kathie built a house on MacKenzie Drive in Swift Current. Harold moved to the Bentley in 2004, and was living there until he was hospitalized on November 29, 2007. Harold had a life-long interest in politics and world events. He was an enthusiastic debater of topics ranging from agricultural policy to international trade. He remained keenly interested in the news and current events to the end, reading the Leader Post daily. Harold was also fiercely loyal: to his wife, Kathie, the ‘farm’, the Liberal party, purebred Hereford cattle and Case tractors. For Harold, a good job was never good enough, ‘very good’ was passable, ‘excellent’ was what he expected of himself and of those around him. He will be greatly missed. Thanks to the Bentley, especially Linda and Carol, of whom Harold grew so fond in the last few years. Thanks also to Dr. El Buni and the nurses and staff on Unit 1 at the hospital who gave Harold such good care in the last month of his life. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 2:00 pm from the Abbey Community Hall, Abbey, SK with Rev. Catherine Christie officiating. The pianist for the service was Marilyn Buck with special music provided by Lisa Casey singing, “Whispering Hope” and “Old rugged Cross”. Scripture was read from Psalm 23. A tribute, written by Alvin Pawlitza, was read by Greg Catley. “Precious Lord” and “Amazing Grace” were sung by the congregation. The ushers were Doug Casey and Glenn Hughes. A Private Family Interment was held at the Abbey Cemetery, Abbey, SK. For those wishing, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
