Stoutenburg, Dorothy “Dot” (nee VanKoughnett) passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Cypress Regional Hospital after struggling with health issues. Dot was pre-deceased by her parents, Clausen & Lucinda VanKoughnett; and her siblings, Gwen, Vilda, Meredith and Richard. Dot is survived by Harry, her husband of 57 years; her 4 children, Brian (Lewauna), Lavina (Murray), Patricia (Ken) and Niel (Judy); her 9 grandchildren; her 7 great-grandchildren; eight siblings; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Dot was born in her parents home on the farm in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan on August 26, 1930. She was the third of 13 siblings. She lived and attended School in Hodgeville. She worked until her marriage to Harry Stoutenburg on July 1, 1950. Mom always said her greatest accomplishment in her life was raising her 4 children and being very proud of them all. Mom had many hobbies. Her love of gardening, sewing, painting, bingo and playing her organ were just a few of the things she was still able to do. Earlier in her life and when she was able, her joys included playing 9 hole golf , curling and participating in the Oil Wives Club and the “Entertainers” group. One of her favorite memories was when dad retired and they traveled across the country with Bert & Isabel and Fay & Gordon. She loved everything there was to do with the outdoors and camping. She loved to travel and see the sites. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, great cooking, a great sense of humor, her wisdom and most of all for the many, many family Christmases that her and dad hosted. She loved nothing more than having her family around her. Mom will be greatly missed by Harry and the family. While we are sad at her passing we will also rejoice in the many memories she has left us. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, January 7, 2008 at 2:00 pm from the Swift Current Funeral Chapel, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Mike Fedunec officiating.
