Name: Munro Hope

Passed away: February 7, 2008

Munro Hope passed away peacefully at the Kyle District Health Centre with family at his side February 7, 2008, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Munro was born to G. Munro and Mabel (Anderson) Hope August 4, 1923.  Munro was born, raised, and farmed most of his life in the White Bear/Kyle District.  Munro married Audrey Mutlow November 10, 1943.  The couple lived a short while in Saskatoon with Munro working at Intercontinental Packers and in the spring of 1944 returned to the Hope family farm. They lived in the family farmhouse and rented the Thomas Hope homestead, which they later purchased from Munro’s Father and his sisters.  In 1947 Audrey and Munro moved to their own farm, previously the Steve Cates farm, that they had commenced purchasing in 1946.  Munro and Audrey farmed and ranched the property that they acquired, raising Galloway cattle and grain.  Munro enjoyed working with horses and cattle.  He participated in horse shows and gymkhana events at local sports days and won many prize ribbons and trophies with his horse, Red.  Munro was instrumental in starting a 4-H Beef Club in 1957 in White Bear and served as Club leader for a number of years.  The club participated in the Frontier Days in Swift Current, showing and selling their calves.  He took an active roll in various cattle organizations: President of the Cattle Feeders' Association for the R.M. of Lacadena, and various roles in the local Galloway and Simmental Associations.  In 1974 he started a Simmental herd by importing cattle from France and Switzerland.  Munro enjoyed showing his cattle at Swift Current Frontier Days and Canadian Western Agribition in Regina winning many awards.  Munro and Audrey retired to Swift Current in 1976, after 32 years of active farming.  Son, Dale, took over the family farm and Munro moved the cattle to son Bob’s farm three miles west of Swift Current.  Thus Munro was able to stay involved with the cattle industry.  Munro moved to the Kyle District Health Centre in June, 2005, as by then Parkinson’s limitations made daily care and assistance from nursing staff a necessity.  Although Munro found the adjustment very difficult he did enjoy the fellowship of residents and staff and greatly appreciated the care and kindness shown.  He could not have spent his last years “in a better place”, a quote from Munro.  Family wish to thank the Health Centre staff for their compassionate care and understanding.

Munro is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Audrey; a son Bob (Lyn) Hope of Swift Current, their son Warren (Debbie) Hope, children Katey and Jennifer, their daughter Jodie (Blake) Babki of Lethbridge, Alberta; a son Dale (Lynne) Hope of Kyle, Dale’s son Tyler (Crystal) Hope of Swift Current, their children Sidney and Courtlyn, Dale’s daughter Kyla (Adrian) Unger of Swift Current, their children Daylon and Deserae; a daughter Penny (David) Noble of Kyle, their daughter Stacie (David) Wiebe of Swift Current, children Kristina and Nicole, their daughter Nadine (Ryan) Dyck of Swift Current, children Carson and Kelsey. His brother Bob (Joyce) Hope of Kyle, their daughter Lauren; niece Marlene Hope; sister Marion (Norman) Myers of Kalispell, Montana, their children Dianne and David; sister Joyce King of Edmonton, Alberta, and her children Judy, Rob and Karen. Munro was predeceased by his parents G. Munro and Mabel Hope; Mabel’s brother Neil Anderson, and many brothers and sisters in-law.

A celebration of Munro’s life was held February 12, 2008, at the Swift Current Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Mutlow (nephew) officiating.  Ushers were Lyle Cates and Larry Mutlow.  Urn Bearer was Daylon Hope, great grandson.  Eulogy was given by Warren Hope, grandson.  Organist was Arlene Olson.  A committal of Munro’s ashes was held at MemoryGardensCemetery, Swift Current. In memory of Munro the family would appreciate memorial gifts of sympathy be given to the Saskatchewan Parkinson’s Research Centre, 103 Hospital Drive, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7N 0W8 or to the Kyle District Health Centre, Kyle, Saskatchewan.
