Name: Henry Koehn

Passed away: February 13, 2008

Henry Koehn passed away peacefully on February 13, 2008. His favorite Bible Scriptures were Matthew 11:28-30, II Timothy 4:7-8 and Hebrews 13:5. Henry Koehn was born on January 6, 1920 in the Pergoria area of the Ukraine, the fourth child of George & Mary Koehn. Henry had two older brothers, Jake and George; one older sister, Mary; two younger brothers, John and Albert; and four younger sisters, Lydia, Elsie, Alma and Velora. The Koehn family arrived in Canada in 1924 settling north of Herbert on a farm. In 1934, the family packed up their belongings and moved to northern Saskatchewan, a trip of over 300 miles. Henry enlisted in the Army in the Electrical Core stationed in Barrie, Ontario and in Ottawa. The Army wanted him as a sniper because of his amazing shooting ability, but arthritis was discovered on his spine and he remained in Canada to serve his country. Henry was discharged at the end of the war and he returned to Swift Current. Upon his return, Henry worked for the CPR for two years and farmed for different local farmers in his spare time. He then started working for Great West Ford until he retired. Henry met Esther Dahl at the bank where she worked. They went out on a blind date and the rest is history. Henry and Esther were married on October 7, 1950 at the United Church, Swift Current, SK by Rev. Bell. As Henry’s health deteriorated, his nephew, Jack & Laura Epp were instrumental in moving Henry & Esther to the Herbert Heritage Manor. During his stay there, and due to his deteriorating condition, he relied more and more on his sister, Mary Epp. We are thankful for Mary and her family for supporting Henry during this time. Special thanks to the care givers at the Heritage Manor for their assistance to both Henry & Esther.
The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2:00 pm from St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Terry Simonson officiating. The organist for the service was Arlene Olson with special music brought by Nancy Lemay and Grace Herbel. Scripture was read from John 14:1-6 and John 3:16-17. “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” were sung by the congregation. The eulogy was given by Gordon Martens. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Main Centre Cemetery, Main Centre, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Jim Koehn, Kevin Epp, Garth Dahl, Roger Dahl, Allen Dahl and Harold Herbel. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
