Justina (Jessie) Kehler-Wernicke, age 84, of Swift Current, SK, passed away peacefully on  August 18, 2008, at the Palliser Regional Care Center, Swift Current, SK. She was born on February 15, 1924 in Russia, to Bernhard and Helena Kehler. In 1926, as a two year old child, Jessie came to Canada together with her grandparents, her parents, two brothers and one sister. Jessie took her schooling in Maharg in Schoenfeld. She attended Sunday school and church in Schoenfeld, and received Christ at the age of 14. Jessie worked at various places for 28 years before marrying Fred J. Wernicke on March 28, 1970. Jessie enjoyed housework, cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and visiting with family and friends. Jessie was predeceased by her two infant sisters; grandmother, in 1951; grandfather, in 1953; Dad, in 1957; step-son, Maxwell, in 1982; Mother, in 1988; a brother, Frank, in 2001; husband, Fred, in 2001; and by a brother, Jack, in 2004.  Jessie is survived by four sisters, Tiena, Mary, Annie (Bill) Neustaeter, Hilda (Isaac) Ginter; six nieces; two nephews; two step-sons, Fred (Rita) Wernicke; Morris (Marg) Wernicke; eleven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 2:00 pm from the ZionMennoniteChurch, Swift Current, SK with Pastor David Pollard officiating. The pianist for the service was Beatrice Peters. “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace” and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Henry Gossen. Special music was brought by Dave & Ramona Pollard. The ushers were Abe Ens and Jake Hildebrandt. The Interment Service was held at the Mount PleasantBurialPark, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Dean Wernicke, Kevin Wernicke, Travis Quirk, Kevin Quirk, Christopher Quirk, and Brian Hannock. In Memory of Jessie Wernicke, donations made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
