David Henry Sorensen passed away at the Kyle Health Centre on September 17, 2008, after his battle with cancer. Dave was born in Rosetown, SK on August 4, 1925. He received his education at the North Landing School and at the Swift Current Collegiate Institute. He was attending Normal School in Moose Jaw when he was called back to the farm. Dave married Barbara May Salkeld on July 28, 1948, at Isham, SK. They had and are survived by 6 children: Ronda (Neil) Minogue - Brock, Curtis & Kimberly; Guy (Cindy) Sorensen - Brent, Kylee; Jay (Cheryl) Sorensen - Danielle (Harley) Gustavson, Melissa, Jena; Orin (Debbie) Sorensen - Kaitlin, Byron, Mairi; Valerie (Sandy) McIntosh - Alex, Nick, Lindsey; Leah (Lyle) Argue - Dana, Glenda (Josh) Thue, Derek. Dave and Barb farmed many years in the Sask Landing area, retiring and moving to Kelowna, BC in 1980. They returned in 1985, to reside in Kyle. Dave was very active in the 4-H movement and some of his many interests were: woodworking (special projects were rebuilding old plows, and restoring a buggy), hiking, especially in the River Hills, dancing and all the exploits and accomplishments of his grandchildren. Dave was predeceased by his wife, Barbara in 1988; his father, Charles; his mother, Elsie; 2 brothers, Byron & Donald; his sister, Calla Ericksteen; sister-in-law, Irene Sorensen; brothers-in-law, Robert Ericksteen, Ben Smith, Ivan Smith. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Smith; sisters-in-law, Florabelle Sorensen, Charlotte Hoover; brother-in-law Ralph (Marge) Salkeld; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The Interment Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 11:00 am from the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with Brock Minogue serving as urn bearer. A tribute of memories was shared by Donald Sorensen. The Memorial Luncheon was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 2:00 pm from the Kyle Community Hall, Kyle, SK with Orin Sorensen sharing a tribute to “Dad”. Donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Kyle Health Care Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
