Jean Dickie ( nee Atkinson) age 85 years, of Pennant SK, passed away on December 7, 2008, at the General Hospital in Regina, SK. She was born in the Sub-District of Ormsley in the county of York , England, on March 25, 1923. Jean served in the British Armed Forces where she met the love of her life - Ross, who served in the Canadian Forces, and they were married in England on October 3, 1945. After WW II, as a young war bride, she left her family in England to follow her husband back to Canada, in July 1946. Ross and Jean lived in many communities, making friends wherever they settled, retiring in Pennant in 1985. Jean dedicated her life to her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her friends, relatives and many acquaintances. Jean truly enjoyed visiting, and was always glad to have company. She was a very accomplished knitter- knitting many sweaters for her family and most recently made 20 scarves for this years Xmas. Jean was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Ross; one granddaughter, Crystal; as well as by her parents, Ivy & Eric. She is survived by her family: Allette (Bryan) and children, Annette (Brad), Raymund (Monica): Dale (Carol) and children, Nicky-Jo (Lane), Leighton (Terra): Gale (Tina) and children, Greg (Abigale), Jodene (Trevor), Rorie: Bradley (Linda) and children, Justin (Brittany) and Lisa. Jean was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Paul (Lynn) and family of London, England; several brothers and sisters- in law; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral service was held on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 2:00 pm from the Pennant Memorial Hall, Pennant, SK with Rev. Maxine Pirie officiating. The pianist for the service was Lorie Tait. “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” and “I’ll Fly Away” were sung by the congregation. Scripture was read from Psalm 23 and Matthew 5:1-14. The ushers were Frank Dickie and Dennis Dickie. Honorary pallbearers were “All who knew her”. The Interment was held at the Pennant Cemetery, Pennant, SK with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers, Justin Dickie, Rorie Dickie, Leighton Dickie, Raymund Logan, Trevor Muri and Lane Forbes. In memory of Jean Dickie, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Pennant Happy Gang would be appreciated by the family.
