With sadness, we announce the passing of Edward George Wiebe on January 24, 2009 at the age of 84 years.  Ed was born and raised in Main Centre, Saskatchewan where he took up farming after his schooling.  He married Miriam Goertz in 1950 and raised their five children on the farm.  He was active in the community serving as the Chair of the Main Centre Consolidated School Board for 20 years and 11 years on the Pioneer Co-op Board of Directors.  At the same time, he sold Univision Trailers off his farm and achieved top sales for all of Sask. two years in a row.  His reputation for being a good neighbour and friend reached beyond his own home community.  In 1989, he moved to Medicine Hat and started his second career at the age of 65 selling subscriptions for The Western Producer.  In no time, he rose to be top salesman for all of Alberta.  He remarried in 1994 to Helen Butler.  Together they enjoyed travel, family visiting and their involvement at HillcrestChurch.  Ed especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.  He will be sadly missed. Ed was predeceased by his parents, John J. and Anna Wiebe and his sister, Ruth Rosom.  Ed’s memory will be cherished by his wife, Helen and his children:  Diane (Rob) Penner, Lois (Doug) Burletoff, Janet (Brian) Schulz, Malcolm (Donna) Wiebe, Nolan (Coralie) Wiebe, 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; sister Anne Dyck, nieces and nephews; and Helen’s children: Janice (Tom) Murray, Les (Irene) Butler and their families; and all his numerous friends.   The Funeral Service was held on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 11:00 am from the HillcrestEvangelicalChurch, Medicine Hat, AB with Pastor Bob McGougan officiating.  The organist was Sharon Kornelson. “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder” and “Because He Lives” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Pastor Donovan Epp. Special music was brought by Jennifer Mann singing, “Amazing Grace”. A tribute was read by Christy Penner and Nolan Wiebe. The Interment Service was held at the HerbertCemetery, Herbert, SK with the grandsons serving as pallbearers, Michael Penner, Robb Penner, Scott Wiebe, Ryan Wiebe, Jason Wiebe, and Jeremiah Burletoff. Honorary Pallbearers were Ed’s granddaughters, Christy Penner, Pamela Schulz, Jenny Schulz, Kari Schulz, Jessica Wiebe, Rebekah Burletoff, and Sarah Burletoff. In memory of Edward Wiebe, donations made to The Heart and Stoke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
