Ethel Mitchell (Nesbitt) was born on April 24, 1915, in Nelson, Lancashire, England. She married Eric Milton Mitchell in 1936. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years in October 1988; her granddaughter, Jill Michele Salter, in 1970; and by her daughter, Marilyn Skipper, in January 1989.
Ethel emigrated to Canada and Swift Current in 1990, to be near her daughter, Valerie Salter, and her family. Upon arrival, Ethel lived in Heritage Towers till health necessitated a move to the Swift Current Care Centre. She resided there for 5 ½ years until passing away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 17, 2009. Ethel worked as a winder in the cotton mill industry during her working years. She loved to knit, crotchet, tat, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to others.
Ethel leaves to mourn her passing her daughter, Valerie & Gerry; her grandchildren, Nicole & Kent, Chad & Lisa; her three great-granddaughters, Brittany, Emily and Mia, all of Swift Current; and her grandson, Edward Skipper, of Switzerland.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Ethel Mitchell was held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm from the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church in Swift Current with David Nevett officiating. The organist was Janet Neubauer. Honorary pallbearers were “All Those Who Shared in Her Life”. The Interment took place I n Mount Pleasant Burial Park Columbarium. Swift Current Funeral Home was in care of arrangements.
