George John Helman was born to Elizabeth and Nicholas on December 12, 1910, in Romania (on a farm), near the Black Sea. At the age of two, his family immigrated to the Great Sandhills of Southern Saskatchewan, in Canada. There he attended a country school named Sandyview. George married Annie Andreas on October 18, 1943. They lived in Lancer, Saskatchewan, which was convenient for having a farm 4 miles north and a ranch 4 miles south of there. In 1963, George and Annie moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan, while still continuing to farm in Lancer. George had many loves; Annie, his family, farming, ranching, curling, horseshoes, fishing, visiting, singing, dancing, belonging to the K of C, and most of all his God.
George passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife Annie; his children, Mary Ann Goldade (Paul), Mildred Edna Scory, Robert George Helman, Pamela Louise Melhoff (Brian); Grandchildren, Sean Goldade (Jerri-Leigh), Marc Goldade (Nancy), Jennefer Scory (David Davis), Alleson Scory, Jeremy Scory, Lisa Scory (Trevor Sutton), Clancy Melhoff, Sydney Melhoff; seven Great-Grandchildren; his sister, Adelia Helman; and sisters-in-law, Mollie, Rose and Antonia. He was predeceased by his parents; six brothers: John (Elizabeth), Christian, Pete, Paul, Bill (Christina) and Greg; a Granddaughter-in-law Patty; and Great-Grandson, Riley Goldade. He will always be remembered for his zest for life and his kind and gentle heart.Prayers were held on Tuesday December 29, 2009 at 7:00 pm from the Chapel of Swift Current Funeral Home and were lead by Vivian Bosch. The Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from Christ the Redeemer Catholic Parrish, Swift Current, SK with Fr. Sathiadas Anthony, officiating. The musician for the service was Marlene Dolter. The Interment Service will take place at a later date. In memory of Mr. George Helman, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK. |
