Name: Olga Gies

Passed away:  February 23, 2010

Olga Gies (nee Wunsch) passed away on February 23, 2010, at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Ted Gies, her parents Fred and Emma Wunsch and her brothers Reinhold, Edward, Oscar and Richard. She is survived by her sister Irma Rauch, son Rick (Donna) Gies, daughters Beverly Pittman and Sandra Baumann (Volker), grandchildren Chantal, Michael, Jillian, Jessica and Devon and great grandchildren Nicholas, Natasha, Chloe, Matias, Kylie, Peter and Sam. Olga was born and raised on a farm in Westerham, SK, married Ted in 1942 and they made their home in Leader, SK. Olga had an unparalleled zest for life. She was an optimist with a fabulous sense of humour and had a flare for fashion, decorating, cooking, sewing and entertaining. She made friends wherever she went. In the fall of 1987, Olga moved to Calgary AB, where she put all her efforts in to rehabilitating Ted after he suffered a massive stroke. After he died in October 1988, Olga rebuilt her life in Calgary, where she continued to make new friends and take part in many new activities that city life offered her, especially going to dances. She moved back to Leader in 2007, where she enjoyed excellent care in the Western Senior Citizen’s Home. Olga will be missed by all who knew her, but they are comforted knowing she had a life well-lived. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 3:00 pm from the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Garfield Vikse officiating. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or to the Leader Western Senior Citizen’s Home. The Interment took place at the Leader Cemetery. Arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home.
