Abe Ens

Abraham Ens, age 82, of Swift Current, SK and formally of Wymark and Neville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the Cypress Regional Hospital with Mary, his wife of 53 years, and his daughters, Gail and Winona, at his side.
Dad was born on September 1, 1928, to Bernhard & Helena Ens, at Schoenfeld, SK. He attended Elementary School at Maharg. Dad married mom, Maria Friesen, April 20, 1958, at the General Conference Church in Schoenfeld. He began farming with his sister, Tiena in Neville and in 1973, and bought his own farm near Chortitz. While farming, he supplemented the family income as an employee at the Co-op Agro Centre.
Abe is survived by his wife, Mary (Friesen); his children, Cheryl (Mark) Cardinal, Gail (Scott) Nelson, Winona (Steve) Laughlin, Howard (Sheryl) Ens, Erwin (Judy) Ens; his grandchildren, Stefan, Ethan and Theoran Cardinal, Maclean and Allegra Nelson, Harrison Ens; step-grandchildren, Carly Laughlin and Tristan Gillis; a brother, John (Kathy) Ens; sisters, Agnes Ens, Tiena Murray, Mary (Jim) Friesen, Elizabeth (Martin) Krahn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his firstborn son, Arthur Earl; his parents, Bernhard & Helena Ens; a sister, Helen (John) Rempel; brothers, Bernhard “Ben” Ens and Cornelius “Cornie” (Mary) Ens; sisters-in-law, Helen Ens (nee Kehler), Susie Ens (nee Warkentin); brothers-in-law, Harold Noble, Burleigh Warren and Cecil Murray. Abe is remembered for his quiet gentle manner, with the gift of helps. Our loss of a true “gentle” man, is heaven’s gain. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 1:30 pm at the Christian Fellowship Church in Rhineland, SK with Pastor Alvin Buhler officiating. Pianist was Leona Knelsen with special music brought by Arnold Ens, Frank, Calvin and Sandra Rempel. Ushers were Harry Friessen and John Hildebrandt. Pallbearers were Stefan Cardinal, Ethan Cardinal, Theoran Cardinal, Maclean Nelson, Russell Noble, and Douglas Noble, with Allegra Nelson and Harrison Ens serving as Honorary Pallbearers. The Interment Service was held at Rhineland Cemetery. Donations to Back to the Bible would be appreciated by the family.
