Welcome to the memorial page for

Agatha Wiebe

January 13, 2017

Agatha (nee Braun) Wiebe, age 84, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Herbert Integrated Healthcare Facility, Herbert, SK, with her children at her side. Agatha was born on April 24, 1932 near Mennon, SK — the first daughter of eight children born to Gerhard & Liese Braun. She attended school in the Parker School District and later in Hepburn, SK. She became a Christian at evangelistic services when she was ten years old. After graduating from Grade 12, the only girl in a class of boys, she attended Bethany Bible School in Hepburn, SK. She moved to Regina, SK to work at the Regina General Hospital, where she received her LPN training. She then joined MCC and moved to Ontario, working at Gravenhurst Hospital, doing a three-month stint in New York, and then at Bethesda in Vineland. Agatha met John Wiebe in Ontario where he was working on a farm for MCC. They were married May 26, 1956 and had three children — Dianne, Donna (who died at birth), and James. They farmed north of Hodgeville, SK for 38 years before retiring in 1995 and moving to Herbert. Agatha was a hard worker and farming partner with John. She had a big garden and loved to grow flowers. She also had a big heart — garden produce and baking were often given to the neighbours and those in need. Her gifts of hospitality and service touched many lives around her. Her teasing and fun-loving ways extended to those that married into the family. Agatha served in the church in the kitchen, in Sunday school, and VBS. When John’s health began to fail she became his devoted and sole caregiver until his passing in 2013. In the years following, she began to go out again and made several trips to BC and Winnipeg. She continued to have people over for meals and hosted her last Bible study event several days before she went into the hospital. Agatha will be deeply missed by her daughter, Dianne (Ron) Toews, their children, Erik (Jamie) – their children, Micah, Keziah, Silas and Miriam: Doug (Elissa) – their children, Caleb, Emerson and Sawyer: (Rosanna and James Wittenberg) – their children, Katie and Samuel: and Kristi (fiancé John); her son, James (Glenda) Wiebe, their children, Joel (Jessica): and Thomas; her 4 brothers, George (Carol), Henry (Helen),  John (Mary), Jack (Elva); her 2 sisters, Marg (Ike) Baerg and Helen; by John’s 3 brothers and 2 sisters; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John Wiebe; her daughter, Donna Wiebe; and by her grandson, Nathan Toews.

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 2:00pm from Grace Community Church, Herbert, SK with Pastor Lyndon Epp officiating. “The Lord is My Shepherd,” “All That Thrills My Soul,” and “God Be With You” were sung by the congregation, led by Henry Braun with Ruth Newton as pianist.
