Alice Wall Obituary

Alice Marie Wall began her amazing earthly journey on October 12, 1944 - born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Jacob and Katherine Schmidt. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

She grew up on a farm just one mile south of the city near the old black bridge that spans the Swift Current Creek.  She had a busy childhood between choring and school work which she took seriously and in which she excelled. Alice would nostalgically share stories about growing up on the farm but she was not at all wistful for those many years when running water was just a dream.

She met her sweetheart, John Wall or Johnny as she often called him and they were married on November 25, 1960. They were very young. No doubt some did not give them much of a chance. But they had a lot going for them. They had an enduring and unconditional love for each other, they had their deep and abiding faith in God and they had His agape love for them.

They were married for almost 63 years through good times and bad, sickness and health - living an example of faith and love for all the world to see and for any to follow. Alice was a dedicated wife and a wonderful Mom and grandma. She relished those days of babysitting her grandkids.

Alice was an achiever. She temporarily let go of her desire for post-secondary education to raise her family but years later, with the nest empty, she enrolled at the University of Regina where she earned a Certificate in Administration.

Alice was a Leader. She ran successfully and served on the Swift Current School Board.  She was acknowledged for a lifetime achievement for the local Conservative Party Election District where she volunteered for years. She was an entrepreneur. She started and successfully ran Laser Image Printing and Design Services.

She loved to travel especially somewhere warm in say…February. Disneyland trips were meticulously planned and a great memory for her family. She and John enjoyed traveling to Hawaii later in life too. She loved the generosity and joy of Christmas time.

In the tradition of her mom, she planted and tended a garden when she could and when she had the space and she enjoyed flowers and bedding plants.

She loved supporting and cheering on the activities of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She also cheered on the Riders, Blue Jays and a couple of political teams too.

Most important of all to her and to her family - Alice was a woman of faith.   She was a follower of Christ.  She commended that faith to her sons to her family and friends - her greatest most impactful legacy of all.

Some use the expression “no one is irreplaceable.” Those folks never met Alice Wall.

She leaves behind to lovingly remember her - her beloved husband John, her sons Barry (Glenda) and Brad (Tami). 6 grandchildren, Justin (Jenna), Brett (Alicia), Darren, Megan, Colter, and Faith. Great grandchildren: Nevaeh, Lane, Lucy, Holt, Keelan, Parker, Hunter. Her sisters and brother Marion (Peter) Wall, Arnold (Barb) Schmidt, Larry Jaster (brother-in-law), Sharon Simpson. Val Hartley who was like a sister to her.

She was predeceased by her mom and dad, her sister Linda Jaster and her brother-in-law Lyle Simpson.

She leaves behind many friends including her ‘best friends 4ever’, Shirley Klassen, Marsha Kusisto and Vickie Thistlewaite

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many health care professionals who have cared for Alice during her too many health care challenges.
