Alta Johnson

It is with heavy hearts the family of Alta Johnson, age 97, announce the passing of their mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother on January 29, 2018 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Alta Cloteal Johnson was born on December 23, 1920 to Benjamin & Margaret (Stewart) Smith — the sixth of fourteen children — and was the first child born at the Morse Hospital, Morse, SK. Alta married Harvey Norman Johnson on August 3, 1940 at the home of Harvey’s parents in Moose Jaw, SK. Harvey & Alta farmed south of Morse, where they raised their three children — Rod, Roxanne, and Donna. They farmed for many years, and celebrated 63 years of marriage together. Alta was an active member of the Morse Seniors Association, and a past member of the Order of the Royal Purple. Harvey & Alta enjoyed trips south and to Alaska with their friends. Alta was able to enjoy living independently up until her passing.

Alta was predeceased by her husband, Harvey Johnson, in 2004; and by her daughter, Donna Mae, in 2002. Alta is survived by her children, Rod (Barbara Hanbidge) Johnson and Roxanne Hagley; her seven grandsons; her sixteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Phyllis Smith and Harold Smith; her sisters-in-law, Joyce Whitelaw and Mavis Berkley; and by many nieces and nephews.

A Private Family Interment Service will be held in the spring. In memory of Alta Johnson, donations made to the Morse Seniors Association or Morse Museum and Cultural Centre would be appreciated by the family.
