“...The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:17 ESV) Such was the life our sister, Amy, lived. Amy Porter, age 83, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Amy Margaret Porter was born on December 29, 1935 to Ernest & Ruby Porter on the family farm south of Glen Ewen, SK. Amy was the fourth child in the family, which grew to include eight boys and six girls.
After her graduation from Glen Ewen she attended Millar Memorial Bible College in Pambrun, SK. She then prepared for missionary service and went to South America, where she served in Colombia with the Gospel Mission Union from 1959 – 2000. She worked with young churches in many different cities, training Sunday School workers and teaching mothers and children. Amy attended Winnipeg Bible College from 1974 – 1975, returning to Colombia to work in a Christian Education Centre and in the treasury office.
In 2000, Amy came “home” to Swift Current, which she chose for its hours of sunshine. She enjoyed the fellowship at the Church of the Open Bible, where she worked with Kids Club and the Missions Committee. Over the years, Amy lived in Heritage Towers, the Prairie Pioneer Lodge, and then the Meadows. Amy was very content, easy to please, and asked little of those around her. She was happy with a good puzzle, fine music, a church service, and the children who came to visit.
Amy loved her family, missed those who had gone before her (†), and will be lovingly remembered by those who remain. Her thirteen siblings, in their birth order, and their families: Arla† (Henry†) Giesbrecht and their children, Abram (Jane) Giesbrecht and John Giesbrecht; Harvey Porter; David† (Elsie†) Porter; Eunice Porter; Russel (Doreen†) Porter and their children, Harley (Rhonda) Porter, Howard (Norma) Porter, Ken (Michelle) Porter, and Les (Elva) Porter; Mary (Gerald) Hanlon; Frank (Linda) Porter and their children, Corey (Peggy) Porter, Danny (Dawn-Rai) Porter, and David (Karina) Porter; Pat (Lynne) Porter and their children, Cody Porter and Brendan Porter; Ella May† Porter; Bert (Lyll) Porter; Roy Porter; Lorna (Clem) Werner and their children, Kendra Werner and Michael Werner; and Lloyd (June) Porter and their children, Travis (Amber) Porter and Krysta (Darren) Kwasnycia; her sixteen great-nieces and nephews; and by her three great-great-nieces and nephews.
