Welcome to the memorial page for

Bert (A.M.) Culham

May 9, 2015

Albert “Bert” Malcom Culham passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. On March 28, 1928, Bert was born on the family farm homestead at Cabri and was also raised there. Upon graduating from school, he was employed briefly as an elevator agent (untrained!) in Nanton, AB. Missing his beloved hometown, Bert soon returned and accepted employment as Express Agent with Canadian Pacific Railway. Bert married Lexie Rennie on June 23, 1951, and they settled in Cabri. In 1952, along with baby Michelle, they moved and took over the family grain farm. They were delighted when through the years three more daughters, Marla, Marcia, and Melane arrived to complete their family. Being a true farmer, this also included raising cattle, chickens, pigs, and numerous pets. His heart had a special place for horses and he loved seeing his children develop the skill of riding. Bert played hockey with the Cabri Bull Dogs and with age graduated to refereeing. He was a committed member of the Lions Club and the Royal Canadian Legion. He was also a Justice of the Peace for many years, a school board trustee, and a respected school bus driver. After renting out the farm, Bert enjoyed employment in the Thompson Hardware Store and subsequently moved on to be custodian of the Cabri School. He was widely recognized for his love of music and for about 20 years was tremendously proud of the devotion and success of his beloved Cabri brass band students. Several years later there were endless fun filled hours spent entertaining musically with a group known as “Lexie and The Boys”. Not to be forgotten, Bert’s love of horses developed into many summers of trail riding. He delighted in the friendships he made with his trail riding buddies. Time moves on and in 2005 the farm was sold. Bert and Lexie have enjoyed the last 10 years in their hometown. The highlights of his days were his twice daily trips to “the office” – coffee row – and a visit with his buds! Bert is survived by his wife, Lexie; his four daughters, Michelle, Marla, Marcia (Dwight Stewart) Melane; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jack Rennie; and by sister-in-law, Cleo McLeod. He was predeceased by his parents, Edna & George Culham; brothers, Lloyd, Russell, Glenn, Don; and by a grandson, Ryan Kerr.

The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11:00 am from the Cabri Community Hall, Cabri, SK with David Hagel officiating. Music was provided by Jennifer Switzer and Community Ensemble. “Give to Us Laughter” was sung by the congregation. The eulogy was shared by Tristan Culham. Special music was brought by trumpeter, Cameron Rennie, playing “Bless This House”. The ushers for the service were Isabel Brooks and David Culham. The Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren formed the Honor Guard. The Interment Service was held at the Cabri Community Cemetery. In memory of Bert Culham, donations made to the Cabri Ice Centre or to the Cabri Community Cemetery Fund would be appreciated by the family.
