Welcome to the memorial page for

Corny Friesen

July 29, 2017

Cornelius Friesen, age 90, passed away quietly Saturday, July 29, 2017 at The Meadows, Swift Current, SK after a lengthy illness. Cornelius “Corny” Friesen was born June 22, 1927 in Schantzenfeld, SK to Peter M. & Anna (Giesbrecht) Friesen, and was their only child. He attended Wymark School. He enjoyed being a hired farm hand where he developed many talents. Corny worked as a propane truck driver, electrician, appliance repairman, mechanic, plumber, construction laborer and farmer. He was baptized on confession of his faith in 1947. He married Anne Dyck on July 3, 1949 — together, they shared 68 wedding anniversaries, two children, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Corny loved to fish, from the shore and boating with family members, cousins, and friends. He enjoyed many trips to the Meadow Lake Provincial Park over the years — catching large jackfish and pickerel was the highlight of his summer, and his break after harvest. Corny enjoyed farming and was disappointed when, because of health, the farm where he had lived most of his life was sold. Corny & Anne moved into Swift Current, where he pursued his hobbies. He built wooden replicas of trains, semi-trucks, combines, track hoes, and dozers. Woodworking and creating wishing wells, china cabinets, wind mills, whirly gigs, and lawn ornaments was a favorite pastime. Each of his children and grandchildren have several precious pieces of his works of art. A pair of talented hands have gone to rest. Corny was predeceased by his parents, Peter M. & Anna Friesen; his grandparents; his aunts, uncles, and several cousins; and by some of his friends and fishing buddies, who were very special to him. Corny is survived by his loving wife, Anne Friesen; his daughters, Stephanie “Sandy” (John) Fehr of Wymark, SK and Cynthia “Cindy” (Philip Ashurst) Friesen-Ford Ashurst of Surrey, BC; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Fehr) & Darcy Prychak of Buchanan, SK, Blaine & Amber (Knudsen) Fehr of Swift Current, Meagan Ford & Trevor Lickley of Winnipeg, MB; his great-grandchildren, Noah, Joshua, Tessa, and Jacob Prychak, and twins, Olivia and Brielle Fehr, who were all very fortunate to have had Corny in their lives as long as they did; and by his granddaughter, Meagan’s, father, B. Don Ford of Regina, SK.
