Welcome to the memorial page for

David P Dueck

March 6, 2015

David “Dave” P. Dueck, age 90, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015, at the Herbert Integrated Health Care Facility. Dave was born on October 1, 1924, on the family farm north of Gouldtown, SK, Isaac & Mary’s third child of a family of ten. As was the life on the farm, starting at a young age, everyone had a job to do. Dave’s job was to chop wood for the stove and to feed the chickens. Life became even harder when his Mom passed away. This eventually forced the family to move off the farm and into Herbert. To make ends meet, the oldest ones worked for other farmers and ranchers. While living out in the country, Dave was not always able to go to school which was six miles away, especially in the winter months. Getting anywhere in the winter months was a real challenge. Dave was a very shy young man who preferred to stay in the background and not draw any attention to himself. He enjoyed the many family gatherings for birthdays, holidays, weddings and picnics. He would often reflect on the good times when everyone was all together. Dave never got a driver’s license or a vehicle, so he was able to enjoy many trips with his family. At times he tested their patience by making them wait for him to get ready. This recurring situation often led to him hearing these four dreaded words, “Hurry Dave, let’s go”! Dave spent a lot of his time with his sisters, Hilda and Mary and their families. He was able to get to know them quite well and cultivated a special relationship with his nieces and nephews. Due to the distance between them they became pen pals and wrote to each other often. He also enjoyed listening to gospel programs on the radio and reading his Bible. One of the sayings that we said to each other was “Keep the faith” which is what our brother Ben said. We will miss you Dave, but are comforted by knowing he is now in a much better place.
