Welcome to the memorial page for

Don Weppler

May 11, 2015

Donald William Weppler, age 90, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015, at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility. Don was born on April 16, 1925, at the farm home north of Morse, SK, to John & Olave Weppler, the second oldest in a family of 6 sons. This must have been no easy chore for Grandma Olave…to raise, feed, and keep track of six lively, mischievous and ever hungry boys! Don received his schooling at Lundeen School, a country school a few miles to the west of their farm. He spent his youth helping his father and brothers work on the family farm. Don met June Glover while she was working for the Art Bestrop family and eventually he worked up the courage to ask her for a date and the rest is history. They were married on October 23, 1946, in the Log Valley Church north of Glen Kerr. This was the start of a long and happy marriage lasting 66 years. Together, they began farming in the Rolling Plains District and would continue to do so for the next 61 years. They were blessed with 3 sons, Jack, Rod, and Bill. Don was an active community member all his life – he was one of the founding members of the Morse Credit Union: a member of the Masonic Order and the Elks Lodge of Morse, eventually rising to the position of Exalted Ruler: and served on the RM of Morse as councillor for 8 years and as Reeve for 6 years. Don was also director of the Morse Housing Authority from 1985 to 1995: and served for many years as a Trustee of the Morse United Church. Throughout his life he was also involved with many sports and community events. Currently he was a member of the Morse Cemetery Committee. Don did find time to enjoy life to the fullest. He was an avid fisherman and could spend hours out on his boat, trying to catch the “BIG” one. In his younger years he enjoyed curling, and later on watched many curling games. He particularly enjoyed games that involved his sons, Rod and Bill. Hockey was a great source of entertainment for Don, first watching his sons play, then his grandsons, and finally the Swift Current Broncos. He was a season ticket holder for 28 years and attended games till the end of this year's season in March. Don especially enjoyed travelling with June in their motor home. The best trips were the 'Snowbird' trips south to Mesa for the warmer weather. They always travelled with lifelong friends and enjoyed many happy adventures during these times, socializing with other Morse Snowbirds, going to flea markets, casinos, and sight-seeing. Don was predeceased by his beloved wife, June; infant granddaughter, Morgan Weppler; parents, John & Olave Weppler; brothers, Harold, Roy, Jim, and infant brother John Ralph Weppler; sister-in-law, Florence Weppler; and by nephews, Cameron Weppler and Jason Weppler. He leaves to mourn his passing his sons, Jack (Laura), Morse, Rod (Mildred), Morse, and Bill (Janice), Regina; grandchildren, Chad (Stacey) Weppler, Swift Current, Scott (Jessie) Weppler, Saskatoon, Lindsay (Tyrone) Johnson, Medicine Hat, Krista Weppler, Regina, Brent Weppler, Regina and Mamie (Tyler) Gorrill, White City; great-grandchildren, Zaydin Weppler, Paige Dads, Emma Weppler, Ellie Weppler, Owen, Morgan and Luke Johnson; brothers, Bob (Gladys) Weppler, Morse, Chuck (Caroline) Weppler, Morse; sisters-in-law, Brownie Weppler, Swift Current, and Paulena Weppler, Morse; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 15, 2015, at 2:00 pm from the Morse United Church, Morse, SK with Linda Stumpf officiating. The musical accompanist for the service was Chuck Weppler. “In the Garden”, “The Little Brown Church” and “Softly and Tenderly” were sung by the congregation. The ushers in the church were Lee Weppler and Kevin Glover. Honorary pallbearers were “All who shared in Don’s life”. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Memory Lane Cemetery, Morse, SK with grandchildren and great-grandchildren serving as pallbearers. In memory of Don Weppler, donations made to a Charity of the Donor’s Choice would be appreciated by the family.
