Welcome to the memorial page for

Edward Schatkoski

July 13, 2017

Edward “Ed” Schatkoski, age 88, died peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Medicine Hat, AB on Thursday, July 13, 2017. Edward Leonard Schatkoski was born on August 25, 1928 in the Swift Current District to Rudolph & Olga Schatkoski. After his high school graduation Ed worked as a mechanical draftsman at the Swift Current Research Station. He then went to work on the farm of Peter & Ingebjorg Mjolid in the Leinan district, where he met their daughter, Kresti, who became the love of his life. Ed & Kresti were married on June 9, 1953. They lived on the Mjolid farm until 1960, when they purchased their own farm and shared together the many jobs and chores of mixed farming, along with raising their six daughters. Ed loved the land. He enjoyed picking berries, hunting and fishing, working the land, and going on crop tours. Together, they enjoyed some special vacations — especially going to visit their daughters and their families. Ed loved to listen to music, especially the Old Tyme Fiddlers, and when his girls played organ and piano. He loved to go to Bible Camp at Simmie and at Kinasao. Church family was also very important. He served on church boards and taught Sunday school in West Prairie/Bethel Prairie, attended St. Olaf, Mt. Calvary and St. Peter’s Lutheran Churches. Ed was a school trustee when the Stewart Valley School was built, served as Secretary and Treasurer for SaskTel in the district, and drove school bus for many years to Stewart Valley. Ed & Kresti loved the time they spent at the Happy Valley Senior Centre, especially those pot lucks! Actually, any pot luck! Ed & Kresti lived on their farm site until her death in 2015. He then moved to the Bentley in Swift Current before making the Chinook Village in Medicine Hat his home. Ed spent his final two weeks at St. Joseph’s Hospice in Medicine Hat with loving, caring, and compassionate staff. Ed is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Lillian Rogers, Elaine (Dennis) Serfas, Isabel (Angus) Lummis, Barbara (Richard) Hirch, Inga (Greg) Larson, and Laura (Bruno) Gross; his grandchildren, Colleen (Justin Ogradnick) Rogers, Jessica (Brian) Grosskleg, Angus (Cynthia) Lummis, Marlena Lummis, Amanda (Randy) Murphy, Alexander Hirch, Kristopher Hirch, Amy Mosby, Emily Gross, and Makayla Gross; his five great-grandchildren; his siblings, Alice Hill, Donald Schatkoski, Irene Stinson, Carl (Cathy) Schatkoski, Gordon (Shirley) Schatkoski, and special Aunt Ragnhild Cory; his brothers and sisters in-law, Anna (Monty) Dugan and Kolly(Lee) Mjolid; and by numerous nieces and nephews

The Funeral Service for Mr. Edward Schatkoski of Medicine Hat, AB and formerly of Stewart Valley took place on Tuesday, July 18th at 2:00 p.m., from the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Swift Current with Pastor Brad Julien officiating.
