Eleanor Eichorst

July 24, 2016

Eleanor Eichorst, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 24, 2016, at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK with her family by her side. Eleanor was born on November 22, 1925, in the Waldeck District, to Daniel & Wilhelmina Mantie, the third of eight children. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the Peace Lutheran Church. She served in the church her whole life — teaching Sunday School, Bible Study Group, and was a member of the choir. Eleanor was also the Alto voice in a long standing quartet that included her husband, Harry, Helen Fellinger, and Elmer Meyer. Her faith was strong and abiding, which carried her through the difficulties of life. Eleanor acquired her formal education at Moscow School in the Waldeck District. Along with going to school, she helped her Dad with the farming and helped her Mom in raising her younger siblings. In 1944 she began working for Edward & Christina Eichorst as a hired girl. Even though she knew their son, Harry, previously, it was at this time that their love blossomed. On January 28, 1945 Eleanor married Harry, the love of her life whom she adored. Together, they built a successful mixed farming operation and raised their three children. They retired to Swift Current in 1981. They were married for nearly 68 years, until Harry's passing in 2013. Eleanor enjoyed farming, gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, quilting and cake decorating – but her greatest accomplishment was her family. Her love for them was unwavering. She enjoyed visits from her children and grandchildren, but her greatest joy in later life were her seven great-grandchildren, whom she referred to as "the little ones". She treasured every moment with them. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Harry; her parents, Daniel & Wilhelmina Mantie; three brothers, Albert Mantie, Arthur (Ann) Mantie, Harold (Ann) Mantie; two sisters, Elsie (Neil) Moore, Alice Mantie in infancy; and by her godchild, Brenda Moore. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Murray (Verna) Eichorst, Redcliff, AB, and their children, Tenille (Sheldon) Camphaug (Navlyn and Brynna), Medicine Hat, AB, and Christopher Eichorst, Saskatoon, SK; her daughter, Charlaine (Don) Avis, Cabri, SK and their children, Shereice (Chris) Harker (Liam and Addison), Warman, SK, Kyla (Shea) Ferster (Ellis and Evann), Saskatoon, SK, and Kendall (Mike) Wicks (Ben), Cabri, SK: her daughter, Jennette (Gordon) Lang, Swift Current, SK, and their children, Cody Lang, Saskatoon, SK and Landon Lang, Swift Current, SK; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Harvey (Rose) Mantie, Swift Current, SK, Gordon (Ann) Mantie, Stoney Plain, AB, Rose Mantie, Swift Current, SK; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Brad Julien officiating. The organist for the service was Arlie Neufeld with special music brought by Murray Eichorst playing, “It Is Well with My Soul”.
