Elma Braun

Alma “Elma” H Braun was born on October 7, 1924 to Isaac & Anna Penner in Herbert, Saskatchewan. She was the youngest of four girls. Mom was a happy, energetic child, always ready for the next adventure, which carried forward into her adult years as well. At a young age she accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour and was baptized and joined the Greenfarm MB Church. Mom attended Greenfarm School and graduated with her grade 8 certificate. She then attended the Herbert Bible School where she met William Braun, and after graduation they were married and settled on the farm where they lived until 1976 when they moved to Herbert. Mom enjoyed her involvement in many church activities: she loved to serve others and their home was always open to family and friends with an offering of fresh homemade buns and soup, pies, cookies, etc. Her grandchildren always looked forward to two of her specialties “chicken noodle soup” and “cottage cheese perogies”. Mom also loved to knit and sew for her children and grandchildren and we all have special items that will always be cherished. Mom & Dad also enjoyed travelling and they made numerous trips to the southern US and Mexico with family and friends. Mom passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at the age of 91. It gives us great peace to know that Mom has joined Dad and are now together in God’s presence. Mom will be greatly missed by her four loving children: Judi (Wayne) Braun, Phyllis (Gerry) Rostek, Darryl (Shelley) Braun and Sandra Braun; her 11 grandchildren; her 11 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers-in-law and spouses; as well as by many nieces, nephews and friends.

The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Grace Community Church, Herbert, SK with Pastor Ed Schmidt and Pastor Tyler Braun officiating. The pianist for the service was Ruth Newton. “I Come to the Garden Alone”, “It Is Well with My Soul” and “Blessed Assurance” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Henry Braun. The eulogy was brought by Shelley Braun with various Family Members sharing tributes. The ushers in the church were Brian Schulz and Murray Martens. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Herbert Cemetery with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers, Jory Braun, Tyler Braun, Riley Braun, Cameron Braun, Curtis Braun, Sean Huculak, Kevin Dueck, Josh Rostek and Ryan Rostek.
