Welcome to the memorial page for

Emily West

September 27, 2016

Emily Lorraine West, age 65, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Emily was born on August 8, 1951 in Smeaton, SK — the first of three children born to Reg & Dora Whitford. She grew up in Smeaton and Uranium City until 1963, when the family settled at Palo, a sodium sulfite mine east of Landis, SK. In 1972, Emily (Mom) married Gordon Sittler and together they had two children, Tanya and Jason. In 1997, mom married Tim West and moved to Swift Current, SK. Their union brought her four beautiful stepchildren, since then the family has grown to include 18 gorgeous grandchildren. Mom was an adventurous soul and always up for a trip to BC to see the grandkids, camping at the lake, or even just an afternoon out for lunch and shopping. Even meals were an adventure, she always wanted to try new things. Mom had a creative spirit. She loved sketching in her youth, took up painting, quilting, floral arranging, and making wedding cakes — mom did it all. She was especially skilled in the kitchen. Often, one would pop in to find the house filled with the smell of fresh baked banana bread or cookies which were always served with hot coffee or her favorite, Earl Grey tea. Grandsons Liam and Evan would race in after school knowing more often than not, Gramma would have fresh, warm cookies for “her” boys. She was the most genuine, open person you could ever find. She had a kind, warm heart that just drew people in. Mom’s loving spirit brought many friends into her life over the years. Judy, Barb, and Michelle became as close as sisters to mom and many a day was spent laughing and telling stories. Mom’s faith and devout love for her family carried her through the last difficult nine months. Always our rock, even in the end, she comforted us with the words “It will all be okay.” Emily leaves to mourn her loving husband of 19 years, Tim West; her son, Jason Sittler, his children – Ty and Haven Sittler; her daughter, Tanya Baxter, her children – Liam and Evan Baxter; her stepdaughters, Kimberly (Matt) Tregoning, their children – Nathaniel and Karah: Jaime (James) Wilson, their children – Leah, Elijah, Caidy, Erik and Olivia Wilson: Megan (Nick) Vanderwall, their children –  Kayden, Judah, Kesler, Bentley, Sawyer, Silas and Taya Vanderwall; her stepson, Kyle West; her sister, Kathy (Glenn) Goetz, their children – Nadine Howreschuk, Corie Phipps, and Jamie Bosovich, and their families; her brother, Keith (Marilyn) Whitford, their children – Lindsay Hauri and Brandy Gregor, and their families; her brothers-in-law, George (Shirley) West, Jim (Jackie) West, and Mike (Bev) West, and their families; and by her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Wilson, Barb West, and their families. Emily was predeceased by her parents, Reg & Dora Whitford; and by her mother and father-in-law, Martin & Elaine West. We can rest assured they were there to welcome her into their loving embrace as she passed through the gates of Heaven.
