Eva Lang Obituary

Beloved wife of Arnold, Eva Lang (nee Friesen), age 87, of Swift Current, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 8, 2022 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK.

Eva was born April 13, 1935 in “small” Reinfeld, SK to Johan & Helena Friesen, the youngest of eight children. She grew up on the family farm with her sisters, Tina, Helen, and Marie and her brothers, Abe, Jake, John, and Peter.

Eva married Arnold Lang in 1956 and moved a mile down the road to “big” Reinfeld, where they farmed until they retired and moved to Swift Current in 2004. Not long after they were married, they began welcoming their family of three daughters — Sharon, June, and Karen. In their nearly 66 years together, mom and dad were inseparable as they farmed their land, raised their girls, and travelled to many parts of the world.

Eva was very active in her church community at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and later, St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She loved her Wednesday quilting time at the church and her Bible study groups. Actually, she loved to be anywhere family and friends gathered. She loved gardening, growing endless flowerpots as well as providing bouquets for the altar when she could.

Mom had said that at her funeral, she didn’t want mention of the flowers she grew or the baking she did, the jeans she mended or all the good things she might have done — her family and friends know it’s a long list. She just wanted it said that she had a great God who made her, gave her life, and all of the good things life offered. She had many wonderful blessings — family, friends, health, talents, and the means to share those blessings. She was grateful for all of it, and most grateful for the saving grace and mercy of God.

Eva is survived by her husband, Arnold; her daughter, Sharon (Bob) Armstrong; her daughter, June (Mark) Evenson and their families, Erin (Braden) Wuthrich (Avey and Vienna), Kate (Paul) Clemens (Meyer), Lane (Tessa) Evenson (Harper), and Kent Evenson; her son-in-law, Wayne Erlandson, and his children, Emilie, Andrea, and Erika Erlandson; her siblings, Marie Funk and John Friesen; her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret Stewart and Henry (Trudy) Blanke; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Eva was predeceased by her daughter, Karen Lang-Erlandson; her granddaughter, Olivia; her parents, Johan & Helena Friesen; her brothers, Abe (Helen) Friesen, Jake (Elizabeth) Friesen, and Peter Friesen; her sisters, Tina (John) Peters, and Helen (George) Banman; her Friesen family brother and sister-in-law, Ernest Funk and Susan Friesen; and by her Lang brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack Stewart, Elsie (Reinhart) Bassendowski, and Ted (Freida) Henning.

Eva — wife, mom, sister, grandma, and friend — will be dearly missed by all of us who loved her.

The Funeral Service for Eva Lang was held on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm from St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. “O God Beyond All Praising,” “The Lord is My Shepherd,” and “My Faith Looks Up to thee” were sung by the congregation, with Arlie Neufeld serving as organist.
