Harold Baldwin

HAROLD “HB’” ALLAN BALDWIN – age 90, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK with family by his side. Harold was born on May 18, 1925 in Cabri, SK to Archibald & Lottie Baldwin. He took his schooling at the Waldensian Valley School. Upon completion of Grade 10, Harold stayed and worked on the family farm. In 1945 he met his future wife, Emily Krastel, who was working as a telephone operator in Cabri. They were married on October 13, 1946 and lived on the family farm near the Waldensian School. In the winters of 1949 to 1952, they lived in Calgary where Harold worked at a furniture factory, a service station and Calgary Transit as a bus driver. In the fall of 1954 they moved to a new home in Cabri built by Harold and his brother, Wallace. Farming became Harold’s & Emily’s livelihood and passion. After his son, Don, purchased the family farm in 1994, Harold continued to enjoy helping him out with the farm operation. Harold served as a member on various executive positions in the Cabri District Lions Club for 30 years and in the Cabri Curling Club for over 50 years. He also held board positions for the Saskatchewan Housing Authority, Cabri Credit Union and Cabri United Church. For 18 years Harold was a councillor for the Town of Cabri. He loved his community and volunteered whenever needed. In his life there were many accomplishments, one highlight being Building Chairman for the construction of the new Cabri Ice Centre. In this role, Harold spent countless hours and took great pride in the project. In 1984, Mayor John Thomson and Harold cut the ribbon at the official opening ceremony. Harold’s pastimes through the years included golfing, curling, goose hunting and spending time with his family and friends. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Emily; his children, Brenda Fahselt (Dana Zackaruk), Karen Baldwin, Don (Bev) Baldwin, Celia Baldwin (Don Dowdeswell); his son-in-law, Lorne Greenwood; his grandchildren, Ryan (Amy) Greenwood, Blair Greenwood, Neal Fahselt (Tammy Blair and son, Zane Theriau), Aaron (Kendra) Fahselt, Chad (Gena) Fahselt, Emily Baldwin (Wesley Shannon), Shayla (Brad) Paquin, Keaton Dowdeswell (Alicia Wittrock), Riley Dowdeswell; his great-grandchildren, Madden and Marley Greenwood, Daylon Hope, Mackinon and Kye Fahselt, Owen and Nixin Paquin; his sister-in-law, Alice Baldwin; his in-laws, John Krastel, Anne Faustman, Irene Partaik, Matt Krastel, Clarence Krastel; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Beverly Greenwood; his siblings, Melvin Baldwin, Wallace Baldwin, Thelma Halvorson, Edna Shaw, Cassie Baldwin, Mabel Halvorson, Vi Halvorson, Lloyd Baldwin; his sisters-in-law, Hazel Baldwin, Grace Baldwin; his brothers-in-law, Alfred Halvorson, Cecil Shaw, Wilfred Halvorson, Helmer Halvorson; his in-laws, Joe Krastel, Tina McGowan, Margaret Cadwallader, Tony Krastel, Greg Krastel, Jean Saltchuck, Chuck Krastel and Vern Krastel. Harold will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, June 6, 2015, at 2:00 pm from the Cabri Community Hall, Cabri, SK with David Hagel officiating.  The Interment service will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK at a later date. For those wishing, donations to the Cabri Ice Centre, Box 455, Cabri, SK, S0N 0J0 or to the Cabri Seniors Co-operative (Cabri Seniors Hall), Box 453, Cabri, SK, S0N 0J0 would be appreciated by the family.
