Welcome to the memorial page for

Jake Peters

March 17, 2016

Jacob (Jake) B. Peters, age 89, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre in Swift Current after a brief illness. Jake was born on June 18, 1926, in the Wymark district, to Bernhard & Aganetha Peters. He received his education at Balfour School, and was baptized on his confession of faith early in life. He started his farming career working together with his Dad and his brothers. Jake and Helen Wiens were married in 1958. They established their home across the road from his parents. Jake was a man who demonstrated his attention to detail in all aspects of life. He tended his fields diligently over the years, as a true steward of God. He was an encourager to all around him, witnessed by the many friendships gained throughout the years. Anyone who knew Jake could see that his Ford vehicles and John Deere equipment were his pride and joy. He spent many hours washing and polishing his equipment, before the equipment was put into the shop. Jake continued this practice with his Ford vehicles in his retirement years, the only change being the hand polishing was replaced by the automated carwash. Jake took great pride in his successful farming career, farming until they retired to Swift Current in 2008. Together they enjoyed their new home, and treasured their many friends and neighbors. Jake’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Helen; his sisters: Mary Wiebe, Helen Andres, and Elizabeth (John) Klassen; his brother: Pete (Leona) Peters (Note: Pete passed away approx. 24 hrs after Jake); his sisters-in-law: Mary Peters, Mary Koop, Beth (Henry) Klassen, Anne (Dave) Penner; his brother-in-law: Pete (Betty) Wiens; and by many nieces & nephews whom they considered their adopted children. He was predeceased by his Father, Bernhard Peters (1963); his Mother, Aganetha (1937); his 8 year old sister, Aganetta (1936); his second Mother, Maria (1959); his siblings and in-laws: Ben Wiebe, Margaret & Henry Dyck, Herman & Anne (1st wife) Peters, John & Betty Peters, George Andreas, Benny Peters; his nephew, Elmer Wiebe; and by his great-nephews, Jeffery Peters & Eugene Friesen; his wife Helen’s family members: Helen’s parents, Peter & Helena Wiens; her family members: Isaac Wiens, Jake Koop, Frank Wiebe, Al Martens, Donald Friesen, Ike Wiens; her nephew, Clinton Wiens; and by her great-niece, Melissa (Fehr) Repetski. The family would like to thank the Doctors & Nursing Staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Saskatoon University Hospital and the Palliser Regional Care Centre for the awesome care provided to Jake during the short time he was a patient in their care.

The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. The pianist for the service was Roxane Funk with Sheila Braun accompanying on the organ. “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art” were sung by the congregation under the direction of John Redekop.
