Jean Heuer Obituary

Jean Heuer, age 91, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Margaret Jean Heuer was born on June 10, 1931 to William & Margaret Middlemiss in Swift Current and was raised in the Burnham District. She attended the Cutbank Rural School in the area until Grade 10. She then helped on the family farm, cared for her grandmother and younger siblings, and started her first job in the lingerie department at Cooper’s Co-op in Swift Current.

Jean married Earl Heuer on November 30, 1950 at the First United Church in Swift Current. Following their marriage, they moved to Kimberley, B.C. where they resided from 1950 to 1960.  While in Kimberley, they started their family and made many lifelong friends, whom they kept in touch with following their return to Swift Current and the family farm at Burnham.

Jean was busy with farm life and always planted a garden at her home in town and a large potato garden at the farm. Homemade bread, buns, and cinnamon buns were a weekly event as was baking cakes and cookies, which she generously shared with friends and neighbors. Jean regularly checked in with neighbors and often brought them some homemade soup and baking if they were under the weather.

Jean spent many hours knitting toques, mittens, dish cloths, and doll clothes and sewing costumes and baby quilts for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sweaters for her furry grand-dogs. She was always up for board and card games with her family and especially enjoyed playing with her grandchildren. Jean joined the weekly ladies bowling group and very much enjoyed the friendship of her team.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Earl Heuer; her parents, William & Margaret Middlemiss; her brother, Jerry Middlemiss; her parents-in-law, Herman & Olga Heuer; her brother and sister-in-law, Edward & Pearl Heuer; her sister and brother-in-law, Clara & Gordon Campbell; and by her niece, Debbie Linklater.

Jean is survived by her children and their families, her daughter Lorraine (Stacey) Nygard (Calgary, AB) and their children, Shaun and Ryan Nygard (Mira); her daughter, Janice Mallard (Swift Current, SK) and her children, Ashton Makuch and Kenzie Gilchrist (Tyson); her son, Doug (Leta) Heuer (Swift Current, SK) and their children, Nicole Pope (Gary), Anthony Heuer (Amy), and Rebecca Sorensen (Travis); her twelve great-grandchildren Piper and Cleo Nygard, Brynn, Owen, Ethan, and Collin Makuch, Elizabeth and Lincoln Pope, Natalie and Alexander Heuer, and Paige and Zoey Sorensen; her sister Eva Linklater (Nels); her brother, Bill Middlemiss; and by several nieces and nephews.
