Leonard Lang

June 26, 2017

Leonard Lang, age 74, passed away Monday, June 26, 2017 at The Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Leonard Norman Lang was born September 18, 1942 to Henry & Otellia (Ulmer) Lang in Swift Current, the youngest of nine children. He grew up in McMahon and went to school at Iris, where he had many friends. He took a sheet metal course in Saskatoon, SK and worked for Voth’s Plumbing and Heating. He then became part owner of Eagle Farm with his brother, Vic Lang, and later his nephew, Gord Lang, until 1985 when they were bought out by Case IH. His business meant the world to Leonard — his highest achievement was being named Top Independent Dealer for North America in 1983 and receiving his plaque from Bob Hope. Leonard married Lorraine (Watson) Lang on June 25, 1994 at Mount Calvary Church, Swift Current — they would have been together thirty years this fall. After selling the business, Leonard worked for South West Pro Ag until going into farming full time with Lorraine and Loren, who now runs it, at his side. Farming and selling equipment was his passion. He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed traveling to BC for fruit in summer. For six years, they traveled to Mesa, Arizona for winter, where they made many friends. Leonard loved country music, old western movies, camping, collected old clocks, and enjoyed going to auction sales for that one bargain. Left to cherish Leonard’s memory is his wife, Lorraine Lang; his children, Lorri Ann (Kim) Menke and Loren (Cathy) Lang; his step-children, Sherry (Wade) Loose and Darryl (Carla) Nichol; his grandchildren, Josh (Paula) Prinz, Dylan (Alyssah) Prinz, Karly (Tiegh) Prinz, Landis Lang, Emily Loose, Suri and Kale Nichol, Wade, Troy, and Chad Shapley, Cara (Taylor) Boucher Haleigha, Charnelle (Tristen) Kachanowski, Asher Jett; his siblings, Irene Dyck, Harvey (Caroline) Lang, and Harold Lang; his sister-in-law, Grace Lang; his many nephews and nieces; Lorri and Loren’s mother, Betty Ann Nichol; and by his foster daughter, Erin Sivertsen. Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Henry & Otellia Lang; his siblings, Elsie Lang, Lil (Rudy) Werk, Vic (Helen) Lang, Art Lang, and Norman Lang (in infancy); and by his brother and sister-in-law, Deidreich Dyck and Kathy Lang.

The Funeral Service for Leonard Lang was held on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at 2:00 pm from Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Brad Julien officiating. “Nearer, My God, To Thee,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” and “In the Sweet By and By” were sung by the congregation, with Kathy Gartz serving as pianist. The ushers in the church Todd Letkeman and Tim McKay. The Interment Service was held from Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Prairie View, SK with Josh Prinz, Dylan Prinz, Chad Shaply, Arverd Dyck, Darren Lang, and Darwin Lang serving as Pallbearers. Leonard’s grandchildren, family, and friends served as Honorary Pallbearers.
