Mary Hildebrandt-Martens Obituary

Mary Hildebrandt-Martens (nee Wall), age 88, quickly and peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Clover House, Swift Current, SK. Maria “Mary” Wall was born January 9, 1934 to Johan & Suzanna (nee Dueck) Wall in Blumenhof, SK where she grew up with her brothers, John, Ben, Joe, George, and Bill and her sisters, Suzie, Kathy, and Anne.

Blumenhof is where Mom learned her work ethic, attended school, Sunday School, skated, and played ball. In her early teens, Mom had the opportunity to attend Elim Bible Camp at Lac Pelletier where she accepted Christ as her Saviour, with the guidance of Gertrude (Hildebrandt) Sawatsky.

Mom’s courtship with Henry R. Hildebrandt began at the Blumenhof skating rink. They were married October 18, 1958 at the Emmaus Mennonite Church in Swift Current with Rev. J.J.M. Friesen officiating. Four children were born to this union — Tammy LeAnne in 1959, Carolyn DiAnne in 1962, Bonita RoxAnne in 1963, and Myron Lorne in 1968.

Working hard together, Mom & Dad built the family farm from the ground up, milked a couple cows, sold the cream for grocery money, had twenty-six cow/calf pairs, butcher hogs, and many acres of land to seed and harvest. Mom learned to operate most of the farm equipment and Dad would often say he preferred to have Mom on the field because she knew what was going on better than any hired man would.

Mom was an amazing Mennonite cook, baker, and loved sewing on her Singer sewing machine. She endured gardening, canning, and butchering. When Dad’s health began deteriorating, they decided to move into Swift and found a lovely condo in 1997. Dad passed the following June 1998, after almost 40 years of marriage. Mom expressed that Dad was so quiet, but he was always there. In July 2005, Mom married Jacob Martens, and thoroughly enjoyed the nearly five and a half years they had together before he passed away December 2010.

Mary is survived by her children, Tammy (Harold) Langendoen, Carolyn (Brian) Penner, Bonita LaForme, and daughter-in-law, Debbie Hildebrandt; her grandchildren, Amy (Isaiah) Adrian, Craig (Karin) Langendoen, Nathan (Jenna) Penner, Melissa (Duane) Reimer, Miranda (Kent) Robertson, Dusty (Laurie) Sauder, Tom (Jessica) Sauder, Brody Hildebrandt, Conner Hildebrandt, and Anissa Hildebrandt; her fourteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, George Wall, Bill Wall, and Anne Cockwill; her sisters and brother-in-law, Mary Wall, Alice Wall, and Cliff Dyck; and by many nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Henry R. Hildebrandt; her second husband, Jacob “Jac” L. Martens; her son, Myron Hildebrandt; her parents, Johan & Suzanna Wall; her sisters, Suzie and Kathy; her brothers, John Wall, Ben Wall, and Joe Wall; two brothers-in-law; and by two sisters-in-law.

The family would like to thank everyone for the gifts of cards, flowers, and food that were given and to their coworkers for going above and beyond for mom in her last weeks. It was greatly appreciated.
