Peter Hoofdakker

May 1, 2017

On May 1, 2017 Peter Hoofdakker, age 95, passed away into the presence of his Loving Savior on May 1, 2017 at Cypress House, Swift Current, SK with his wife, Anna, at his side. Peter is survived by his beloved wife of almost 41 years, Anna Hoofdakker; his brother-in-law, Isaac (Eva) Janzen; sister-in-law, Susan Janzen; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Stella (Harper) Hoofdakker; his parents, Peter & Victoria Hoofdakker; his sister, Victoria Smethurst; and by his brothers-in-law, Jake (Annie) Janzen, George (Helen) Janzen, Cornie (Helen) Janzen, John (Margaret) Janzen, and Bill Janzen. Peter wrote his life history a few years ago, in his retirement years. “I was born August 3, 1921 in Eindhoven, Holland to Peter & Victoria Hoofdakker. In 1925, my parents immigrated to Canada and landed in Lethbridge, AB. In 1928, we moved to a homestead 18 miles north of Barrhead, AB where we farmed until 1946. From there, we moved to Eckville, AB to a farm we bought. In 1949, I married Stella Harper and we lived in Red Deer, AB until 1951. In February 1952, we moved to Prince Albert, SK and worked for several different establishments until 1969. From there we moved to Kinistino, SK where we partnered with an implement dealership — C&D Service — and stayed there until the passing of my wife in 1973. I continued there until 1976. I was fortunate enough to have met a special friend, Anna Janzen, and on May 29, 1976 we were united in marriage. In 1978, we moved to a small farm and enjoyed living there until 1986. We then moved to Swift Current and bought a small farm. We farmed there until 1994 when we retired to the city. We still do volunteer work at the MCC store, some hobbies, and lots of visiting to keep active.” The Funeral Service for Peter Hoofdakker was held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 1:00pm from Fairview Bible Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Daniel Butt officiating. “All the Way My Savior Leads Me,” “Jesus is All the World to Me,” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” were sung by the congregation, with Evelyn Resler serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Peter’s nieces, who sang “Take the World, but Give Me Jesus.” Jake Janzen gave the Scripture reading. The Testimony was given by Lorraine Becker, with Peter’s nieces and nephews sharing memories. The usher in the church was Russel Porter. The Interment Service was held from Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with Lloyd Janzen, Jacob W. Janzen, Albert Janzen, Gordon Janzen, Ernie Janzen, and Ron Janzen serving as Pallbearers.
