Welcome to the memorial page for

Peter Peters

March 18, 2016

We say "farewell for now" to Peter — husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Pete, age 72, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre in Swift Current, SK, after a long courageous fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Pete’s memory will be cherished by his best friend and wife of 46 years, Leona; their daughters, Jacqueline (EI) Robertson of Redcliff AB, Kimberly (Mark) Phillips of Shafer, MN, USA; four very special grandchildren, Shawn and Katelyn Robertson, and Kennedy and Austin Phillips; his sisters, Mary Wiebe, Helen Andres, Liz (John) Klassen; mother-in-law, Katherina Hiebert; brother-in-law, Jacob (Elaine) Hiebert; sisters-in-law, Helen Peters, Mary Peters, and Evelyn Hiebert; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bernard & Maria Peters; father-in-law, Jacob K. Hiebert; his siblings and in-laws, Margaret (Henry) Dyck, Herman Peters, John (Betty) Peters, Jacob Peters (by one day), Ben Peters, George Andres, Ben Wiebe, John Hiebert; nephew, Elmer Wiebe, and by his great-nephews, Jeffery Peters and Eugene Friesen. Peter was born the youngest of nine children on April 13, 1943 in Swift Current, SK. He attended school in Belfour, Montford and Wymark. Pete married the love of his life, Leona Hiebert, on October 5, 1968. They made their life on the family farm up until this past August. The farm was Pete's pride and joy — he was happiest when the harvest was done and the combine, tractor, and truck were cleaned and back in the quonset. All those who knew Pete well, know that a clean vehicle inside and out was a must (and don't touch the windows whatever you do). He also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family, travelling, camping, the weekly coffee outings to the Wymark Rink, and the Thursday evening coffee group. Many special friends were made through this outing. He especially enjoyed the year of his and Leona's 40th wedding anniversary, when we all went to South Dakota camping — what an awesome time. We are sad that he is gone, but know that he is breathing easy now.

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastors Ray & Sylvia Friesen officiating. The pianist for the service was Roxane Funk with special music brought by Adam & Tyler Ferguson. “How Great Thou Art” was sung by the congregation under the direction of Karan Regier. The obituary and tributes were shared by Family & Friends along with a PowerPoint presentation. The ushers in the church were John Wiebe, Allan Peters, Gordon Peters and Wayne Peters. The Honorary Pallbearers were “All of Pete’s special friends”. The Interment Service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Blake Hiebert, Barry Hiebert, Dwayne Hiebert, Neil Peters, Larry Peters and Wendall Klassen. In memory of Pete Peters, donations made to the Emmaus Mennonite Church or to the Wymark Rink Association would be appreciated by the family.
