Welcome to the memorial page for

Reginald Poff

February 20, 2015

Reginald Poff was born November 27,1928 and passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Swift Current Care Centre after a mercifully short battle with cancer on February 20, 2015. Reg is predeceased by his beloved wife Sheila and parents Ralph and Leona Poff, and survived by his brothers Clayton (Tillie) of Swift Current, Del (Annie) of Shaunavon and Roger of Swift Current. Reg is also survived by his sons Myles (Lara) of Edmonton and Darcy (Amanda) of Swift Current and Grandchildren Trevor, Morgan, Sean, Evan and Great Grandchild Cameron and many nieces and nephews. Reg will be dearly missed by all of us and his many, many friends. Reg attended school in Thring and Burns districts west of Simmie, Saskatchewan for his education. After that he went to work on threshing crews and did a number of other jobs including Coal mining, logging and working on various construction crews all around Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba.  Reg was Journeyman Painter who had built a thriving painting business called Reg's Painting in Simmie in the late 1960's. In 1968 Reg married Sheila Cayley who was a young teacher from Ramsgate, Kent England in Canada on a teaching contract with the Government of Saskatchewan. From that time on Reg's Painting became R&S  Painting and Decorating  and mom worked with Dad during the summer when she was not teaching school.  There are examples of Dad's work all over Saskatchewan and the province owes much of its colour to Reg Poff. So if you see a Red barn with white trim you can be pretty sure that Reg Poff made it look that way at least once in its lifetime. Like many people Reg was a complicated person who liked simple things in life.  He loved to watch Rodeos and play baseball, hockey and curling in his younger years even managing a hockey team in Simmie called Reg's Rebels.  He often coached us boys in hockey and baseball as we grew up and he Instilled in us the value of sportsmanship and kinship that comes with being part of a team.  Reg also loved horses, and dogs and we had many, many of them growing up. Reg loved music as well and played the accordion, the violin and as well as other instruments.  Above all else, my dad loved the art of conversation or BS as it is known in some circles.  He could literally talk to anyone about anything and he knew many countless people from all around Saskatchewan and Alberta. Like some folks collect stamps or coins, dad collected friends and acquaintances and he treasured them all.  Reg would help anyone if he could and he always said to us kids when he would find some folks stranded on the highway and brought them home with him, that is the right thing to help if you can. Reg, my dad, was a good man, a good friend, a good father and we will miss him so much.

Please join us in Celebrating Reg at the banquet room at the Days Inn (formerly the Horseshoe Lodge) in Swift Current on Sunday March 1, 2015 at 2:00 PM.  There will be a short service followed by a lunch with some of Dad's favourite foods for guests to enjoy.  We would also request that folks come prepared to share some stories or funny happenings involving Reg.  Darcy and I know very little about our dad as a boy and young man and would really appreciate knowing more.

It was my Dad's wish to be cremated and placed next to Mom and per that wish, interment will take place at a later date. Donations may be made in Dad's name to the Swift Current SPCA
