Robert Hansen Obituary

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Hansen, age 68, on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Robert Floyd Hansen was born on June 20, 1954 to Ole (Stanley) & Audrey Hansen in Gull Lake, SK. He was raised with his two sisters on the original Hansen Homestead in the Verlo area.

Bob started farming in the early 1970’s before venturing into a variety of different career paths. Bob returned to the oilfield and spent the last 35 plus years doing what he loved and made many life long friends. The outstanding support of the oilfield community has been second to none throughout Bob’s cancer journey and has been greatly appreciated by Bob and his family.

Bob married the love of his life, Dianne, on June 12, 1976 and they were blessed with two children – Curtis and Lisa. Bob & Dianne lived on the family farm before moving to Hazlet, SK where they raised their children. They enjoyed Hazlet living and the community always held a special spot in their hearts.

In 2008, Bob & Dianne moved to Swift Current where they resided until Bob’s passing. True to form, Bob made many new friends in Swift and quickly became involved in the community. The farm always held a special spot in his heart and he spent many hours there at his “manshack.” He was thrilled to host an end of harvest party at the farm this past fall where many neighbours and friends stopped by.

Over the years, Bob & Dianne enjoyed trips to destinations such as Mexico, Hawaii, Jamaica, and Victoria as well as camping at Lac Peltier and Cypress Hills. Bob especially enjoyed this past summer at Cypress Hills, as he loved the trees, sitting in his lawn chair reading a book, visiting, and tending his fire.

Bob was known for his outgoing personality and friendly disposition. Many will remember his “perfect” response when asked how he was. He was truly one of a kind and never missed the opportunity to say hi. Bob loved to tease and gave many nicknames over the years. His quick wit and stories made many of us laugh over the years.

He had a kind heart and was the first to offer a helping hand wherever needed

During the last few years, Bob enjoyed connecting with friends, putting many, many miles on his truck, and spending time with family — especially his grandchildren. He was proud to be a personal chauffeur for Riley and a barrel racing cheerleader for Cassie.

Bob is survived by his wife, Dianne Hansen; his children, Curtis Hansen and Lisa (Scott) Starkey; his grandchildren; Riley and Cassie; his sisters, Jan (Ed) Cooke and Lois Hansen; his sisters and brothers-in-law; his nieces and nephews; and by many friends.

Bob was predeceased by his father and mother, Ole & Audrey Hansen.

The family would like to thank all of the health care professionals, family, and friends who supported Bob through his cancer journey.

A Celebration of Life for Robert Hansen will take place at a later date.
