It is with sadness that we announce that Shirley Mastel, age 77, of Cabri SK (formerly of Lancer, SK) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the Prairie Health Care Centre, Cabri SK. Shirley is survived by her son, Brian (Karen) Mastel; her daughter, Roxanne (Alan) Schneider; her son, Darren (Eva) Mastel; her grandchildren, Brandi (Shelby) Prokopchuk, Tanya (Tony) Hannouch, Winston Mastel (Klanci), Joshua (Jennifer) Dussault, Bryan Dussault (Alicia), Chantel (Omar) Mars, Tanner Schneider (Crystal), Joey Mastel, Kyle, Cody and Jessica; her great-grandchildren, Jayla, Jaedon, Javen, Ava, Ashtyn, Tre', Trypp, Zayden, Averyanna, Thomas, Nakeisha, Riley, and Kaydon; her brother-in-law, Frank (Barb) Mastel; her sisters-in-law, Marianne Hintz, Clara (Dale) Anhelher, Charlotte Lantz, Connie Svrta and Marian Mastel; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2012; her father, William, in 1985; her mother, Lena, in 2004; her daughter, Penny, in 2005; her granddaughters, Kimberly and Kayla, in 1989; and by her brothers, Harvey Brost, in 2014 and Raymond Brost, in 1949. Shirley Lois Audry was born on November 26, 1938 at Leader SK to William & Lena Brost. Shirley (Brost) married George Mastel on May 17, 1958, at Leader SK. Shirley was a homemaker and raised their four children. Shirley & George lived in Lancer for a short time, then moved out to the country where they farmed for many years. They retired to Cabri where she resided until her passing. The past three years her residence was at the Prairie Health Care Centre where she received the most excellent care. Shirley’s fondest pastimes were spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, washing clothes, playing cards, bingo, watching hockey and listening to the Bronco games on the radio. Shirley will be lovingly missed by all she knew.
The Memorial Service was held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Lancer Community Hall, Lancer, SK. The tribute was shared by Roxanne Schneider with the slideshow tribute presented by Bryan & Alicia Dussault. Special music was the chosen song, “Let Her Fly”. A Private Family Interment Service preceded the Memorial Service and was held at the Lancer Cemetery, Lancer, SK with Roxanne Schneider serving as the urn bearer. In memory of Shirley Mastel, donations made to the Prairie Health Care Centre, Lancer, SK would be appreciated by the family.
