Stanley "Stan" Kitz Obituary

Stanley “Stan” Kitz, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2018 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK with his family by his side. Stan was born March 5, 1930 to George & Julia Kitz on the family farm in the Yorkton, SK area, the second of four children. Stan married Audrey Etchison (nee Carnduff) in 1963 and started their new family life with her two young children, Keith and Wendy. Their family grew when Lori was born in Yorkton, followed by Debbie in Saskatoon. Stan was a proud grandfather, he and Audrey travelled during the winter and enjoyed visiting their grandchildren and attending curling bonspiels with their friends from Swift Current.

They spent their summers traveling in the motorhome to some of the finest sand green golf courses in Southern Saskatchewan with the family. Stan took great pride in his yard maintenance business, and his hard work was evident in many Swift Current yards — particularly the Co-op Condos adjacent to the Wheatland Mall, which were Stan’s flagship yards. He was also very dedicated to the snow removal phase of yard maintenance, his family always wondered what drove Stan to be the first to clear the snow on the driveways and sidewalks — he wanted to ensure his clients and friends were safe from the icy conditions of winter, knowing his reward of a job well done was a shot of Brandy to warm up while he watched his Mighty Montreal Canadians try to win another Stanley Cup. Stan was a staunch fan of the Montreal Canadians and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He played fastball in his early years, and later enjoyed watching curling and the Blue Jays.

Stan was a father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed. Stan is survived by his children, Lori (Wayne) Fernquist and Debbie Blair; his step-children, Keith (Sveta) Etchison and Wendy (Dean) Burnett; his eight grandchildren, Jordan and AJ Blair, Melissa, Raelene and Garret Etchison, Nicole (Cole) Booker, Jennifer (Chris) Wolsey, and Alicia (Tommy) Fernquist; his eleven great-grandchildren, Kapri, Rhett, Rachel, Rylee, Sophia, Ethan, Tyler, Ryen, Kingston, Henry, and Atlas; his brother, Joseph Kitz; and by his nieces and nephews. Stan was predeceased by his wife, Audrey Kitz; his parents, George & Julia Kitz; and by his siblings, Frank Kitz and Stella Kitz. The family would like to give a special thank-you to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at The Meadows and Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current.

The Funeral Service for Stan Kitz was held Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 am from the Swift Current Funeral Home Chapel with Father Reymundo Asis officiating. The eulogy was given by Dean Burnett, followed by Debbie Blair and Wendy Burnett, who gave a reading. Prayers were made by Randy Kitz and Gregory Kitz The Private Immediate Family Interment Service was held from Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. In memory of Stan Kitz, donations made to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
