Susan Wagner Obituary

Susanna “Susan” Wagner, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Herbert and District Integrated Health Care Centre, Herbert, SK. Susanna Katharina Wagner was born July 26, 1925 — the eldest of five children born to Wilhelm & Kataryna (Backer) Wagner — on the family farm in the Rush Lake district, SK. Susan was raised on the farm and completed her education at Swan Lake, Centre Spring, and Rush Lake School.

She worked at Eaton’s in Swift Current before beginning a stenographer’s course. Upon her successful completion, Susan began her career with the Research Station in Swift Current, which spanned 31 years. She retired in 1981 and was able to do some travelling and sightseeing — she enjoyed vacations to Mexico and Alaska, as well as Germany, where she was able to visit with relatives. Throughout her life, Susan remained true to two very important things — family and faith. She cared for her mother both on the farm and later when she was moved into a care facility and continued to do so until her mother’s passing. Susan was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church and attended faithfully as long as she was able.

Susan was predeceased her parents, Wilhelm (1963) & Kataryna (1979) Wagner; a brother in infancy; her sister, Rose Mantie (2017); and by her brother-in-law, Albert Mantie (2010). Susan leaves to mourn, her brothers, Victor Wagner (Swift Current) and Reinold (Joyce) Wagner (Yorkton, SK); she will be dearly missed by her nieces, Corinne (Dave) Underwood and their boys (Edmonton, AB), Holly (Randy) Cyhla and their boys (Churchbridge, SK); and by her nephew, Ryan (Christine) Wagner and their family (Yorkton, SK).

Susan has left us with a lifetime of memories we will always treasure.

The Funeral Service for Susan Wagner was held on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 2:00 pm from St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Greg Kiel and Rev. Manfred Kurschner officiating. “Lord Take My Hand and Lead Me,” “Precious Lord Take My Hand,” and “When All My Labors and Trials are Over” were sung by the congregation, with Arlie Neufeld serving as organist. Special music was brought by Rev. Manfred & Renate Kurschner, who sang “Nearer My God to Thee” in German. Scripture was read by Corinne Underwood (1 Corinthians 12:12-31) and Trinity Wagner (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). The ushers in the church were Bob Neufeld and Lyle Patzer. The Interment Service was held from Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Prairie View, SK with Carter Cyhla, Hunter Cyhla, Randy Cyhla, Cody Underwood, Ryan Wagner, and Rylee Wagner serving as Pallbearers.
