Victor Klippenstein, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2023, at the Cypress Hills Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK.
Victor was born on March 8, 1931, to Jacob and Helena Klippenstein, into a family of teachers. He grew up and received his elementary and high school education in Rush Lake. Education was very important to Victor, and he continued his education after high school, earning several degrees. Victor's teaching career began at Bigford School as a study supervisor in 1952.
On August 16, 1953, Victor married Doreen Gutwin, and together they taught in a two-room school at Versailles. From there, Victor taught in a number of schools, concluding his career as the librarian at the Swift Current Comp. Victor's teaching was primarily in English literature, a field that led into his work as a librarian. He inherited a love of books from his father, and the years spent in the library were indeed delightful ones. His greatest delight was to see students develop an interest in and love of books.
Victor was very committed to Zion Mennonite Church. He was an active member for many years, serving on a wide variety of boards and committees. The family spent many summers traveling to church conferences across Canada.
Victor's family was very important to him. He and Doreen regularly visited their children, near and far. He enjoyed a lengthy and fulfilling retirement. In more recent years, as he and Mom dealt with aging, Victor's devotion to Doreen was evident to everyone who knew them. He cared for her as her health failed, and missed her greatly after she passed away in 2020.
He is survived by two sons - Ken (Judy) and Christine; and Rick (Edith) Kristian (Paige), and Taliah (Jonathan); and two daughters - Marion (Ken) Peter (Katie), Timothy (Arianna), and Rachel (Will); and Maureen (Rudy) Kate and Nick; and sister Margaret.
The Funeral Service for Victor Klippenstein was held on Friday, January 6, 202 at 2:00 pm from Zion Mennonite Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Lois Bukar officiating. “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less,” “In the Rifted Rock,” and “Bless’d Be the Tie That Binds” were sung by the congregation, with Grace Funk serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Nick Niebuhr and Edith Klippenstein, who sang “Abide with Me” and Rachel Dueck Ault and Marion Dueck, who sang “On Wings of Song” by Mendelssohn. Tributes were given by Victor’s grandchildren. The scripture reading, I Corinthians 15:51-57, was given by Ken Klippenstein.
