Ada Hiebert

Ada Hiebert, age 95, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Annie “Ada” Hiebert was born November 24, 1922 to Angus & Annie (Wesson) Morrison in Vanguard, SK. She grew up an only child with very few relatives in the Pambrun area, and was quite young when her mother passed away during the influenza epidemic. Ada had to grow up far too quickly with her hurting, lonely father.

On June 28, 1946 Ada married Abram “Abe” Hiebert. They farmed in the Vanguard area before moving to the Morrison homestead. On August 21, 1947, Ada gave birth to their daughter, Judith. Her days were filled with raising her daughter, the duties of keeping house, and at the Vanguard hospital where she worked as an aid. In 1958, Ada accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior, she and Abe attended church in Pambrun. In 1965, they moved from the farm into Swift Current due to Abe’s health. Ada worked at the Swift Current Care Centre until her retirement in 1988. She was baptized in 1985 at Trailview Alliance Church, where she became a member. Life was filled with challenges for Abe & Ada, as he was ill for over thirty years. In 2009, she suffered a mild stroke and moved into Riverview Estates, then the Palliser, and finally the Meadows. Subsequent strokes left Ada unable to walk or communicate well.

Ada was predeceased by her husband, Abe Hiebert; her parents, Angus & Annie Morrison; her parents-in-law, Kornelius & Maria (Koethler) Hiebert; and by several brothers and sisters-in-law. Ada is survived by her daughter, Judith (Karan) Regier; her grandchildren, Lane (Deseray) Regier and Karalee (Diedrich) Fehr; her great-grandchildren, Ava, Eden, and Mya Regier, Hunter and Paxton Fehr; her sister-in-law, Tiena Hiebert; and by many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Special thanks to the Palliser and Meadow’s staff and neighbours, Ruby and Friends, Trailview Alliance Church family and staff, and all those who loved and cherished her as much as we did.

The Funeral Service was held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Blair Froese officiating. “When We All Get to Heaven” and “Blessed Assurance” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Ruby’s Friends. The obituary was brought by Karan Regier with tributes shared by Karalee Fehr and Lane Regier. The ushers in the church were Frank Rempel and Duane Olson. The Honorary Pallbearers were Bill & Lil Wainman, Gordon & Jean Johnston, and Ruby Wotherspoon. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Ron Hiebert, Blair Hiebert, George Tschetter, Diedrich Fehr, Brian McAlaster, and Dave Rempel. In memory of Ada Hiebert, donations made to the Trailview Alliance Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family.
