Agnes Fehr Obituary

Agnes Fehr, age 88, passed away on Wednesday April 17, 2019 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK, one day after experiencing a massive stroke.

Agnes was born October 27, 1930 in Blumenhof, SK — the second of ten children (five boys and five girls) born to Gerhard & Katharina (Friesen) Klassen. She attended school in Blumenhof and completed fifth grade. Because her father was a deacon in the church, her parents were committed to visitations, which left her to take care of her siblings. When Agnes was fifteen, she worked as a waitress in Piccadilly Café to help support the family.

She met the love of her life in the village of Chortitz, SK.  Agnes married Jacob Fehr on October 10, 1948. They lived in Swift Current until 1953, where Agnes worked in the Venice Cafe and Jacob worked as a section-man for the CPR. After the city life, they farmed in Chortitz and area, where they raised their family of seven children.

Agnes & Jacob made a great team, she milked cows and assisted in field work. Agnes accepted the challenges that came along and was good at many things, and knew how to put her children to work. She loved to cook, sew, garden, and was always willing to help someone in need. Agnes’ devotion to her faith in God and love of her husband and children was never in doubt, she often read the Bible to her children and taught them Bible verses.

She loved to sing and there were singalong’s wherever she went, you would often hear her singing. She loved hearing Jacob playing his harmonica and signed all her children up for music lessons. Agnes & Jacob enjoyed many trips together, and visited family and friends from far and wide — including trips to Mexico, Ukraine, Bolivia, Belize, and even Hawaii.

They built a new retirement home in Swift Current in 1987. Special thanks go to Dr. Gordon and the wonderful staff at The Meadows for their special care and compassion for Agnes during the past two and a half years.

Agnes was predeceased by her daughter, Katherine Matheson; her parents, Gerhard & Katharina Klassen; and by her two brothers, George and Peter.

Agnes is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Jacob Fehr; her children and their families, James (Lily) Fehr (James, Cameron & Kim), Robert (Elsie) Fehr (Kelly, Eugene & Tammy), Sandra (Harold) Friesen (Steven & Crystal), Gerald Fehr (Lisa, Angela, Kristal, and Raeleen), Brenda (Bob) Penner, and Susan Fehr (Aaron); her numerous great-grandchildren; her three brothers and four sisters; and by many nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Life for Agnes Fehr was held on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 2:00 pm from Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Paul Little officiating. “How Great Thou Art,” “Take My Life and Let it Be,” and “I’d Rather Have Jesus” were sung by the congregation under the leadership of Bob & Brenda Penner. The obituary was read by Jim Fehr, followed by a photo tribute. Special music was brought by Crystal Friesen (granddaughter), who sang “Find Us Faithful.” The message was given by Steven Friesen (grandson). The ushers in the church were Crystal Friesen, Tammy Vallevand, and Kimberly Fehr.

The Private Interment Service was held prior to the service from Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Steven Friesen officiating. Jim Fehr, Robert Fehr, Gerald Fehr, Kelly Fehr, Eugene Fehr, James Fehr, Cameron Fehr, Henry Klassen, and Reynold Klassen served as Pallbearers.
