Anna Tschetter Obituary

Anna Tschetter, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Anna was born on July 26, 1924, in Russia, to Isaac & Katherina Tschetter. The following year she immigrated to Canada along with her parents and older sister, Kathryn. They settled on a farm near Neville where she and her siblings later attended the Bell Creek School. Anna helped her Dad with some of the farm work and helped her Mom with the housework, which she did meticulously. She also did housework for some families in Neville, and also in Swift Current, when she moved there with her parents in 1964.

Anna and her parents attended the Zion Mennonite Church where she was baptized on March 24, 1974. She also spent many hours embroidering, knitting, and baking fancy squares and delicacies for family get-togethers. Her father passed away in March of 1984, and Anna and her Mother continued to live in their home sharing household duties. After her Mother celebrated her 100th birthday, declining health necessitated her move to the Palliser Care Centre. Anna visited her Mother faithfully every day, until her passing in 2001. Anna then moved several times, first to an apartment, to Prairie Pioneer Lodge, and then to The Meadows.

Anna was predeceased by her Father, Isaac; her Mother, Katherina; her sisters, Kathryn (Dan) Danyluk, Helen, Agnes (Henry) Friesen; and by a brother, Cornelius Tschetter. She is survived by her brother, George (Susie) Tschetter; her brother-in-law, John Olfert; and by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend Special Thanks to the staff at The Meadows for their care of Anna during the past 2 ½ years.

The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 2:00 pm from the Fairview Baptist Church, Swift Current, SK with Russell Porter and Pastor Daniel Butt officiating. The musicians for the service were Loreen Wiebe and Peg Olfert. “In the Sweet By and By” and “What a Day that will Be” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Judith & Karan Regier. The eulogy was shared by Marlin Olfert. Special music was brought by Peg Olfert and Loreen Wiebe, and by Notes of Praise. The ushers in the church were Henry Fehr and Harry Friesen. The Interment Service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Tom Olfert, Gary Tschetter, Brian Tschetter, Brad Olfert, Clarence Tschetter, and Craig Tschetter. In memory of Anna Tschetter, donations made to the Gideons International, or to The Meadows Auxiliary, Swift Current, SK would be appreciated by the family.
