Carl Stenstrom Obituary

Carl Stenstrom, age 91, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the Herbert & District Integrated Healthcare Facility, Herbert, SK. Carl Johan Eric Stenstrom was born November 25, 1926 in Brancepeth, SK to Oscar & Hildur Stenstrom. He studied agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan and worked as a grain buyer.

Carl married Lena Penner May 7, 1965 and together they had three children. Later, they moved to BC and he worked at a variety of jobs, including National Hog, Coop Hardware and Feed, and Plants Plus. In 1978, Carl and the family moved back to Saskatchewan where he worked as a heavy equipment operator and maintenance engineer until he retired in 1991.

Carl really enjoyed sports and his hobbies. He played and coached hockey and also enjoyed curling. He also enjoyed helping with harvest wherever he could after work. In his spare time, you could find him doing crosswords or reading a book, which continued through the years. Carl enjoyed visiting with people, especially with his extended and immediate family.

Carl is survived by his loving wife, Lena; their children, Oscar, Erica, and Tannis; his ten grandchildren; his five great-grandchildren; his brother, Jerry (Sheila); his brother-in-law, Ben (Doreen); his sisters-in-law, Tina, Nettie (Herb), Martha, Marie, Beulah, Karen, and Daphne; and by many nieces and nephews. Carl was predeceased by his parents, Oscar & Hildur; his sisters, Maria (Alfred) and Elizabeth (Bert); his brothers, Norman and Raymond (Phyllis); his parents-in-law, Jacob & Agatha; his brothers-in-law, Peter, Diedrich, Abe, Henry, Jake, Jim, and Don; and by his sisters-in-law, Mandy, Ann, and Mary (Pete).

The Funeral Service for Carl Stenstrom was held on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 2:00 pm from St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Linda Hall officiating. “Old Rugged Cross,” “What a Day That Will Be,” “When the roll is Called Up Yonder,” and “Amazing Grace” were sung by the congregation, with Arlie Neufeld serving as organist. Special music was brought by Donovan Epp. The eulogy was given by Ashley Loewen. The ushers in the church were Calvin Penner and Alvin Penner. The Private Interment Service was held prior to the Funeral Service from the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with Evan Stenstrom, Kale Bull, Ryan Stenstrom, Noah Stenstrom, Dennis Penner, and Kevin Penner serving as Pallbearers. In memory of Carl Stenstrom, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
