Ceceilia Kost

Ceceilia Kost, age 91, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at The Meadows, Swift Current, SK. Ceceilia was the tenth, and last, child born to Anton & Margareta (Mardian) Materi on July 12, 1925 on the family farm near Prelate, SK. She was raised on the farm and her chores included milking the cows, making breakfast, washing dishes, and carrying water from the wells. She attended the Gladwin School. Ceceilia married Bill Kost on September 14, 1957 in Medicine Hat, AB. Their marriage was a very happy time in her life. However, this relationship ended suddenly with Bill’s accidental death in  1959. With the help and guidance of her sister, Clara, Ceceilia continued to live in Medicine Hat for many years. As Ceceilia’s health declined, Clara moved Ceceilia from a care home in Medicine Hat to the Palliser in Swift Current in 2008. She then moved to The Meadows in 2016 where she resided until her passing. Ceceilia was predeceased by her husband, Bill Kost; her parents, Anton & Margareta Materi; and by her six brothers, Francis, Peter, Louis, Franklin, Leonard, Steve, and their spouses; and by her three brothers-in-law. She is survived by her three sisters, Katie O’Connor, Theresa Weppler, and Clara Dillman; and by her numerous nieces and nephews. We are grateful for the care provided to her by the staff during her stay at The Palliser and The Meadows. The staff who work in care homes are unsung heroes. We thank them!

The Funeral Service for Ceceilia Kost was held on Thursday April 20, 2017 at 1:30 pm from the Swift Current Funeral Chapel with David Hagel officiating. The Interment Service for Ceceilia Kost was held at the Hillside Cemetery in Medicine Hat. For those wishing, donations to the Prairie Pioneer Lodge (Meadows) Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family.
