David Peters Obituary

David Peters passed away peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2018 at the Meadows Care Home in Swift Current, SK at the age of 83 years. David was born on the farm near Blumenort, SK on May 27, 1935. He completed grade 8 at the school in Blumenort. His twin brother, Jake Peters, continued on with his education while David chose to work on the farm, which he loved.

On July 31, 1960 he married the love of his life, Tena Klassen. They were married at the EMC church in Chortitz and began their married life at the family farm in Blumenort. Five years later he established a homestead for his own family south of the village of Chortitz.

David’s life was family, farming, and devotion to God and the EMC church. He provided well for his family and took time to vacation with them each summer. He was frugal and did his own repairs on the farm equipment enlisting the help of any children that might be nearby. His farm also included livestock, chickens, pigs, many unwelcomed cats, and a dog. He had a great work ethic and always did his job well. Dave was very creative and engineered many of his own ideas. In fact, he started by building his own toys at the age of ten.

In the church he served as a deacon for 40 years caring for others. During this time, he was active as a song leader and served on numerous committees. He often helped out with building projects and clearing snow from the parking lot. He lived out his faith in every aspect of his life.  He loved God and served Him faithfully. Dave enjoyed life, practical joking, telling stories and laughing at them more than anyone else. (Have you heard about the guy whose feet where so big, each shoe had to be brought in on a separate railcar?!)

Dave enjoyed fishing, but fishing from the shore just wasn’t good enough so he bought a small boat and was very patient and persistent in catching that big pickerel.  Horseshoes, crokinole, or playing pool, were some of his favourite games.

David is survived by his loving wife, Tena; his children, Sharon (Gord) Skopnik, Sandra (Darrel) Ingram, Julene (Dave) Manjoo, and Kevin (Darcie) Peters; his grandchildren, Ashlyn (Brayden) Krell, Alyssa (Andrew) Stapley, Dustin Skopnik, Dylan Skopnik, Amy (Cam) Halischuk, Samantha Ingram, DJ (Celina) Ingram, Kaitlyn, Kiera, Kassidy, and Kristen Manjoo, and Jesse, Benjamin, AJ, and Sammy Peters; his great-grandchildren, Emily and Alessandra Ingram; and by many nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kadie Peters; his parents, Franz & Justina Peters; his siblings, Mary, Henry, Pete, Stella, Frank, Bill, Anna, and Jake; and by numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.

David was greatly loved and will be dearly missed by all.  He is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus.
